“You have his number?” Wily frowns, reaching for her device.
“He’s in my study group. I kind of have to have it.”
Wily nods, handing it over, then wrapping his arm around her shoulders while Satch pulls up the number and reads it out to me.
“You think he’d be interested in taking out someone like Dani?” I ask.
“Well, I don’t really know her, so I’m not sure what the personality match would be, but Paul’s really kind. Even if it wasn’t a good fit, he’d still give her a nice evening out, you know?”
“Oh yeah, I have seen these memes before.” Grady nods. “And which one’s Ned Flanders?”
Blake giggles and finds a clip of him. We all sit there while Grady watches Ned pop up from behind a hedge to greet Homer. “Hi-diddly-ho, neighborino!”
Grady winces while Blake cracks up laughing. “Yeah, that’s way too friendly.”
I frown down at the digits on my phone, suddenly unsure.
“He is really sweet, though.” Satch tries to stand up for her study buddy. “And he wouldn’t treat her like crap. Maybe she’s into super friendly.”
She looks back at me, and I wish I could give her a swift answer, but I’m not sure.
I know the Dani from high school. She’s no doubt changed a lot since then.
But if she’s looking for a guy like Atlas, a Ned Flanders dude is not gonna work.
“You said you wanted to ease her back into dating.” Wily shrugs. “Maybe a super-friendly guy is exactly what she needs. It’ll take any romantic pressure off.”
“And he’ll definitely listen to her and not talk about himself the whole time. I don’t think there’s an arrogant bone in Paul’s body,” Satch adds.
“Okay.” I nod, sighing as I rest back in my chair. “Well, do you want to see if he can meet up for coffee or something in the morning and we can find out if he’s interested?”
“You want to screen the guy first?” Zander grins at me.
“Hell yeah, I do. I’m not recommending someone I haven’t even met.”
“Good call.” Sienna nods. “I’m kind of curious to meet him now too. Can we all go?”
Satch giggles and pauses texting to cringe at Sienna. “That poor man. No, you are not doing that to him. Sitting down with a bunch of massive, intimidating football players and a crew ofcurious women? I will not put him through that. It’s gonna be Tyrell and me only.”
Sienna gives her a disappointed pout, then points at Satch. “I want full deets afterward, though. Okay?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Satch gives her a mock salute, then finishes her text while I start to worry if this is the worst idea I’ve ever come up with.
Seriously, what was I thinking?
Telling Dani I’d find her Mr. Right? I must be out of my damn mind.
CHAPTER 11
DANI
“No way, that’s crazy!” Charli argues, lightly slapping Nix with the back of her hand. “Girl, estás loca!” She rattles off a few more things in Spanish that I don’t understand, and Nix rolls her eyes.
Lunches with Nix and her college buddies are always entertaining, that’s for sure. We’re currently sitting at a table in the sunshine while Nix bickers with Charli—her best friend since freshman year—about Charli’s brother, Darian, currently a junior on the Nolan U Cougars basketball team.
“I’mtellingyou. It happened.”
“I don’t believe you.” Charli shakes her head, and I glance at Jolie, who got roped into this friend group at the end of last year. She’s sitting across from me, stifling a giggle with her hand. “My brother may be a womanizing pig sometimes, but he’s not a full-blown asshole.”
