“Swimming’s a bitch.”

Penny laughed. “And you only swam, what, eight laps?”

“I’m going again tomorrow. Wanted to give my body enough time to rest.”

Penny rolled to her back and stretched her arms over her head. “I think that’s a wise choice.”

Brett rounded the bed and hovered over her, running his hands over her skin from her wrists to her shoulders, then kissing her before walking to his dresser. “I’m going to go down to the gym and lift. I would invite you to come, but I know how you feel aboutthose people.”

“They’re the worst.” She grinned as he turned and shot her a look. “I’ll probably doze a bit longer, then do some yoga.”

Brett looked at his phone. “With your friend?”

“Who, Chastity? The one I went to the art show with?”

Brett snorted. “That’s her name?”

Penny nodded. “Don’t you dare make fun of it, and I wasn’t planning to go to the studio, easier to just do it here on the porch.”

“Perfect. Start that around seven if you can.”

Penny frowned and pushed up on her elbows. “Why?”

“So I can watch you through the window while I eat breakfast.” He smirked as he pulled on his gym shorts, and Penny fell back on the pillow.

“Your wish is my command.”

Brett pulled on a T-shirt and returned to her side of the bed. His expression was serious when he said, “You know I’m kidding right? Do yoga whenever you want.”

She reached up and ran a hand over his hip. “I know. I’ll see you when you get back.”

He gave her hand a squeeze. “You have patients today?”

Penny yawned. “Same guys I saw last week plus this guy Beckett who’s a friend of Jordan’s. Then I have the lacrosse games this week.”

“What nights?”

“Thursday and Saturday. Team practice on Friday, though. They want me there for that, too.”

Brett exhaled. “I got a message from my mom last night. They went hiking with Cameron two weeks ago and since I couldn’t come, they wanted to do something together this weekend. Kind of last minute, but my dad ended up having Saturday off.”

“Oh that’s great. What do they want to do?”

“Go up to Sylvan Lake Friday night, come back Sunday. I was going to see if you wanted to come, but it sounds like you’re booked.”

Penny grimaced. “I wish I could. I’ve never been up there, and I miss my lake time.”

“You’re one of those people?” Brett brushed her hair behind her ear.

“Oh definitely. If you mean bumming along with my cousins and camping on Lake Okanagan so we could use my uncle’s boat.”

Brett smirked. “That’s the only way to do it. My dad is meeting up with a colleague so we can use his boat this weekend.”

She smirked. “You either pay money or time investing in a friendship you don’t want.”

“Good thing I don’t have a boat or I’d be questioning your motives.”

Penny snatched Brett’s hand and brushed her lips over his knuckles. “So I won’t see you this weekend?”
