“Did you guys see Country's latest video?” Kelty asked.
Sean looked skeptical. “He has another one? I thought he said his brother filmed him without his knowledge.”
“I think he gave him permission at some point. They're hilarious,” Emma said.
Penny had met Country at Sunday Supper but she had no idea what they were talking about. “Fill me in”
Brett leaned over. “Country has strong opinions about hockey like most of us, but he’s a bit more colourful in his assessments.”
Tyler snorted. “That’s an understatement.”
Brett grinned. “His brother caught it on tape while they were watching a Flames game. It went viral on TikTok, and now he’s apparently posting more of them.”
Kelty pulled out her phone. She stared at the screen for a few minutes before finally standing and stretching her legs. “I don't have enough service to get it to load, but you’ve got to check it out when you get home. His handle's @maplestickhandler.”
Penny laughed. “Did he come up with that handle himself?”
Sean shook his head. “No, he had nothing to do with this.”
“So he says.” Kelty winked as she put another marshmallow on the end of her roasting stick.
“Is there an endgame here?” Brett asked.
Kelty shrugged. “I think his brother just finds it amusing.”
“Sounds like the masses agree.” Tyler pulled his marshmallow away from the coals. Penny was definitely going to have to watch that video. She wasn’t a huge social media person, but every once in a while she loved a good rabbit hole.
“Now I regret not filming dad while he watches games,” Sean said.
Emma breathed a laugh. “He doesn't really say much, though. Mostly just makes intense facial expressions and curses under his breath.”
Tyler squished his marshmallow between two graham crackers with chocolate. “Still hilarious.”
“Sports are so weird. We watch a game sitting in our living room and act like we’re somehow a part of it.” Penny reached for a roasting stick, inspired by Tyler’s golden masterpiece.
“That's probably why Country's videos are so popular. He’s a player. He does have insider information,” Emma said.
“His videos are popular because he doesn’t have a filter,” Sean muttered.
Kelty sighed. “I love no-filter Country. He usually only comes out after ten o’clock.” Penny grinned. She loved no-filter Kelty who tended to show up most strongly in the dark.
Sean broke off a piece of Cadbury and popped it in his mouth. “Only because you egg him on. Without fail, Kelty brings up Marchand or Evander Kane.”
Kelty laughed. “What! Everyone needs a good Country rant to brighten their day.”
Sean chuckled. “His hate list is longer than my arm.”
“Well, your arms aren’tthatlong.”
“Oh, c’mon. Everyone needs a good hate list,” Brett said.
Kelty turned. “Do you have a hate list?”
“Maybe.”
Her jaw dropped. “You do not. You’ve never once roasted a player at One Place.”
Brett took a drink of his Clearly Canadian. “Who said it was a player hate list?” Penny laughed at Kelty’s widening eyes.
