Tyler pulled out his phone, opened his messaging app, then clicked on Emma’s picture. His thumb hesitated momentarily, but then he started to type.
ChapterFour
Don’t get involved with Tyler
Emma staredat the text message from Sean and rolled over onto her back. She wasn’t looking to getinvolvedwith him. She was only curious. She typed out,Fine, but is he single?then deleted it. She hadn’t asked too many questions already, had she?
Emma scrolled back through the last few messages. No, she’d only asked whether he was new on the team and about his situation. Totally normal, non-invasive questions after meeting someone you had a mutual connection with.
A notification popped up on her phone. Emma’s heart felt like it was connected to an air pump and someone had just slammed down the handle.A message from Tyler. She swiped up.
Seems it’s a well-known fact on the Snowballs that nobody on the team is supposed to share honey crullers with you
Please don’t mention how far we went. If Sean knew about the London Fogs…
Emma clapped a hand over her mouth.Sean told him she’d texted? What. The. Hell?! She was going to murder her brother. Didn’t he understand discretion when it came to private messaging?
Now Tyler was sitting in that van filled withthe entire team, and they all knew she’d texted Sean asking about him. She dropped her phone on the bed next to her and draped an arm over her eyes. Such an idiot.
No.She wasn’t the idiot. Sean had made a big deal out of nothing, and she wouldn’t be rude just because he was. She picked up her phone and let her thumbs go to work.
Oh, he’d be intimidated. I don’t think he and Kelty have even made it past Timbits
Seriously, though, I’m so sorry. I texted to ask when you joined the team since I didn’t recognize you
Didn’t mean to put you on his naughty list
Her heart flapped against her ribs as she stared at the screen. The chat jumped as the wordstypingappeared under her message. She turned onto her side and folded her pillow to prop up her head. She held her breath as Tyler’s message appeared.
I’ve been on plenty of naughty lists, but never my captain’s
That’s a first.
Two firsts in less than twenty-four hours. I think you’re a bad influence on me
She giggled—giggled—and pulled the phone closer so she could type.
I don’t think I’ve ever been told I’m a bad influence, so I think we’re even with firsts
You guys in Sask yet?
Tyler responded immediately.
Still two and a half hours out
Good luck tonight. I haven’t been to a game in forever, but a little birdie told me you’re gunning for the finals this season
Was it Suraj? He’s not supposed to have your number. I’m telling Sean
Emma snorted, then coughed and nearly dropped her phone off the bed.
Shhh. Put that tasty morsel in the lockbox with the Fogs
It took Tyler a minute to respond. When he finally did, it was only one sentence.
Maybe you should change that, by the way
Emma frowned.
