Once they agreed, they reentered the room where they’d left Eilee.
Now she rested in the fountain, her breasts above the water, her nipples perky, her arms spread out on the ledge behind her. Her gaze was fixed on the open window on the other side of the room as she looked out through a slit at the crystal jungle, at the sky of Hell, something that looked so bleak compared to the life of Heaven’s sky.
How could this creature bear to live under such circumstances after having seen how truly magnificent life could be?
Eilee appeared so peaceful and serene as she lay perfectly still, like a statue. Kinzer was breathless as he stood there, marveling at her beauty. She appeared to be part of a portrait as the light from outside shimmered across her face.
“We agreed you may join us, if that’s your desire,” Kinzer said.
Finally, Eilee moved, rising from the fountain, the water cascading down her body. She offered a sweet smile before chuckling, her face lovely as ever as she seemed to be laughing as she would have to some delightful joke someone had told, even though no one had spoken. While Kinzer marveled at her beauty, he also wondered what the fuck she was laughing at. Was this some bout of insanity she was experiencing? Had she lost her mind in some way in that moment? Were they suddenly at risk of her gathering her guards together and having them execute Kinzer, Quintz, and Hayde?
“I am sorry,” she apologized. “I’m taking great amusement in the quest we’re about to embark on. It really is delightful. I have had too much peace in my life, and it really excites me to have some adventure. I had just gotten back from quite an ordeal, which I admit I needed some rest from, but I’m ready to battle again. And my friends here have no need for me at present.”
She guided them to the exit. Daddy stood watch with his companions outside the room.
“I will require my sword, dear friend,” she said. “I have a great quest ahead of me.”
Kinzer wished he could share her enthusiasm, but he figured it was only a product of whatever madness had overtaken her. Nevertheless, he knew, as Quintz had pointed out, she was their only option.
