“I think a handshake will be plenty,” Treycore said through gritted teeth.
“I am Eilee.”
As Kid introduced himself, she said, “Kid? That’s so cute, and despite your odor, you aren’t the worst of mortals I’ve seen.”
“Excuse me?” Kid asked, pulling away from Treycore, but Treycore didn’t let up his hold on him.
“No, she actually did mean that as a compliment, Kid,” Treycore said in her defense, feeling that Kid wouldn’t be able to read the way in which Eilee offered such praise. It was a manner only a privileged higherling such as himself could really understand.
“Oh, but he is feisty, isn’t he?” Eilee said. She knelt down to him and leaned close. As she neared him, she sniffed before saying, “And he smells like you, Trey.”
“Okay, I think we’ve had enough of that,” Treycore insisted as he pushed on her shoulder so that she’d get away from Kid, who watched her carefully. “I’m hungry as fuck, and we have shit to talk about.”
“We’re starving too,” Lanzar said.
“We don’t have much to eat,” Kinzer told him.
Yorro nodded. “That’s not an issue. We can hunt down something in the woods for all of us while you guys play catch-up and decide our next move.”
“That sounds lovely,” Eilee interjected, “but I think I will take a leisure stroll through the yard while you discuss the war. I have worn myself out with Treycore, and I figure someone may debrief me when all is settled?”
“Same here,” Yorro noted.
“For sure,” Hayde said before Eilee giggled and practically hummed out, “Lovely.”
