Kinzer turned to Janka, who stayed where he was. The Christ was crying even louder than previously.
Janka had a wicked gleam in his eyes, which surprised Kinzer, considering he’d just destroyed his means of transportation.
But as he looked at the baby, he saw something moving from its sides. It was like vines growing from it. They continued growing before Janka knelt and set the Christ amidst the bodies at his feet.
The vines spread out and enlarged, expanding across the bodies.
What the fuck?
The baby’s flesh shredded like razors were tearing it apart from the inside out. The flesh pushed aside, revealing a chestnut-colored sack, which enlarged at an exponentially rapid rate until it was taller than Janka. The vines thickened, and soon, appeared to be giant legs, like those of a spider. Three of the new appendages curled in and scratched at the sack until it ripped open, exposing a creature with a head half the size of its bulbous abdomen. It gazed at Kinzer through black eyes.
Janka stepped beside the creature, a massive grin overtaking his face.
Why isn’t he scared to death?
“It was already time for my little baby,” Janka said, gazing at the hideous beast, apparently proud of its transformation. “That’s what I meant when I told you, it’s over. You’re too late to stop all that I’ve orchestrated.”
“What the—”
“As I said… this is just the beginning.”
He winked.
The creature crawled to Janka and wrapped its arms around him. Two bat-like wings spread out from its back, spanning twice the width of its body. As they flapped about, the wind they created threw Kinzer against the wall.
The creature flew through the air, shattering a large window in the side of the house as it burst through, taking its father figure, and Kinzer’s ex-lover, with it.

Kid pressed his ear against the door. He could hear the sound of doors opening and closing.
The immortal they’d seen in the hall was checking the rooms.
Not good.
Holding the dagger Hayde had given him in case he needed it, he ran to the other side of the room, to the closet.
Maybe they could hide in there.
Maggie writhed about on the floor behind him. She was in some sort of delirium.
He hurried to her, wrapped his arms under hers, hoisted her in the air, and dragged her across the floor.
Come on.
A door that sounded like it was nearby opened.
Shit, shit, shit.
Kid was only halfway across the room, and he felt weaker than ever.
He huffed and puffed and—
CLICK.
The knob to the door turned.
He paused, breathing as quietly as possible.
