Chase collapsed on top of him, offering those intimate kisses. Sweet, affectionate, and loving.
“Well, I guess we pretty much screwed ourselves out of going on that ride,” Chase said.
“I don’t know about you, but I had a pretty amazing ride.”
“Well, mine was kind of amazing as well.”
“Amazing, really?”
Chase blushed. “God, how do you still make me blush? You’d think I would have gotten over that a long time ago.”
Chase started to lean back, but Mason didn’t let up his hold. “What are you doing?”
“I need to get out of here and start emptying that shed or Tessa and Emery are gonna come looking for me.”
Mason’s expression twisted up. “I don’t like you mentioning my sister and coming that close together.”
“Shut up!” Chase exclaimed.
“I just don’t want you to leave just yet. Can’t you give me another second?”
“I want to give you more than that. It just sucks that we only have a few more days and then we’re both back to our regular lives.”
Mason frowned, his gaze drifting. “Yeah.”
He wasn’t sure if their situation was going to work out, but he desperately wanted to believe it would.
“Now I’d better go ahead and get to the shed,” Chase said. “Tessa will be giving me a hard time until I do. I'm surprised my phone isn't blowing up already.”
“Just give me five more minutes,” Mason told him before he kissed him again.
“I love you, Mason Finley,” Chase whispered between kisses.
“I love you, too, Chase Rogan.”
Mason held Chase close. It wasn’t a desperate hold, needing him to stay because he feared he’d get away. It was just his desire to be as close to Chase’s body as he could, keeping him as near to him as was possible.
His Chase. His, and only his.
To have and to hold, from that day forward.
For better, for worse.
For richer, for poorer… in sickness and in health…
At least he hoped.
“IWANT TO SEE HER,”MASON SAID, STANDING BEFOREPAoutside his and Ma’s bedroom.
“Mason, no,” Pa stated.
Chase stood at Mason’s side. He’d followed him as soon as Pa had come down to tell them what he’d discovered that morning. Mason had fought his way up the stairs to the bedroom, demanding to see her, but Pa stood in the doorway to keep him back.
Mason pushed past him. He had to know for sure. He had to know it wasn’t just some horrible mistake.
He knew the truth even before he saw her on the bed, her face white, her eyes closed as she appeared to be sleeping. But he knew she wasn’t.
She was gone.
