I blink quickly, unable to see for a few seconds. When I finally get my vision back, my wife’s beautiful face is the first thing I see.

A warm, comforting feeling courses through me. It wraps all the way around my chest, settling somewhere deep.

I’ve had a lot of good sex before in my life. But I never knew sex could feel likethis.

This all-consuming, overwhelming feeling that’s comforting at the same time. I feel shattered and whole all at once.

Ellie leans up and kisses me. An emotion I’ve never felt before bubbles up inside of me.

She gazes up at me. “Are you okay?”

I nod and lean back, remove the condom, and toss it into the nearby trash can.

I lie down next to her, hugging her against me. “I’m perfect. How are you?”

“Really good.”

“Are you sore?”

“A little.”

Worry zooms through me. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I hurt her.

She just smiles and cups my cheek with her hand. “It’s a good sore. I like it,” she says, like she can read my mind.

I kiss her, that dizzy feeling swooping through me once more.

We lie there, cuddled together, my heart thrumming in my chest. My whole body vibrates with joy. I want to remember this moment forever, cuddling my wife, feeling happier than I’ve ever felt in my entire life.

I’m aching, restless with the need to be with Ellie forever.

And then it finally hits me.

I know what this feeling is.

Chapter 47

Camden

“Way to hustle, Connors,” Ryker hollers.

“Thanks, Georgie.” I huff out a breath and guzzle water from my bottle.

I’m running three-on-three drills at the practice rink with Blomdahl, Xander, Del, Ryker, Sam, and Theo.

“We’re looking pretty tired out there,” Xander says. “We’ve got a long way to go before training camp.”

“Look at you, sounding like a team captain,” I say.

He cracks a smile. “Can’t help it. I’m trying to take it seriously.”

“That’s good, man. We’re pumped to kick off the next season with you leading us,” Sam says to Xander.”

We all agree. Xander’s smile grows. “Thanks, guys. Means a lot.” He turns to me. “And hey, I heard a rumor that you’ll be wearing the ‘A’ on your jersey this season. That true?”

He smacks my shoulder. I shrug and attempt to play it cool, but I fail to hide my smile.

Xander grins. “I knew it.”
