Beside me, Lincoln is doing his best night-before-the-full-moon werewolf impression, silently seething so loudly I’m shocked the whole room isn’t shaking. At least king-of-the-assholes Kyle has the smarts to look a little cowed, carefully avoiding Lincoln’s piercing stare.
It doesn’t stop him, though.
“This weekend is supposed to be about commitment to this family, but someone here has done nothing but lie to every single one of us, and I’m here to set the record straight.”
“Just get on with it already,” Lincoln growls.
I didn’t think it was possible, but Kyle’s smile grows wider. Any more, and it’ll split his face in two (a girl can dream).
“Lincoln, something you want to add? Or maybe yourgirlfrienddoes?” My spine ices itself when he looks at me. “Nothing? And you’re normally so chatty.”
Taking their cue, the rest of the table turns to stare at us. Well, shit.
It was good while it lasted.
CHAPTER2
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
IVY
I don’t care; I’ll say it. I love drama.
Plays, musicals, movies. Eighteen seasons of semi-scripted reality television that will become my entire personality until I can’t have a single thought without quoting it.
Fabulous, give me fifteen more.
I mean, the last one’s pretty bad for the mental health of contestants, but I can’t stop watching them. The more ridiculous, the better.
It’s all about the drama.
So when I find myself without a job or purpose, being asked to play the loving girlfriend on a weekend away at a mansion that rivals Pemberley? Where the family isn’t mine and one man is currently embroiled in a scandal that threatens the reputation of his family’s legacy?
Sign.
Me.
Up.
But I’m racing ahead.
It all started three months ago, when I got the call that ended my career…
CHAPTER3
THIS SEASON IS CANCELED
IVY
THE BEGINNING
Waiting is the worst part.
When the redundancies were announced, management promised it would be over in two weeks, as if ten days of stomach-churning anxiety was a blessing.
It’s not.
After six excruciating days, I’m pretty sure my stomach is eating itself.
