“Are you sure you like them?” I’m worried now as his continued silence stretches between us.
“Aspen, I love them. This might be the most personal gift anyone has ever given me. I can maintain a small part of me tonight. Thank you.” He chuckles and pulls a small square container from his pocket. “Of course, they make what I was going to give you seem not as exceptional.”
I palm the case from Finn but don’t remove the lid. “Open it. It’s a simple thank you for going out of your way to get me the tie."
I slide the top from the box and inside, resting on a piece of white jewelry velvet, is a necklace. The large oval pendant is about two inches long. I’m not sure of the stone type, but it’s a glossy black color surrounded by smaller diamonds all the way around the outside of the stone. Except they can’t be diamonds. That would make this piece expensive regardless of what the middle stone is. Way more than a small thank you gift.
“Wow, Finn, it’s gorgeous. Thank you.” Finn helps wrap the delicate silver chain around my neck and fastens the clasp. The pendant feels heavy and cold as it rest on exposed skin above the neck line of my dress. The middle gem matches Finn’s all black attire this evening, and I get an extra thrill knowing we’re both wearing a piece of each other. Him with my cufflinks and me with this necklace. It’s a silly thought, but one I can’t let go.
My eyes raise from looking at my new shiny necklace and Finn stares at me from his place in the kitchen. “What?”
He gives his head a small shake. “Nothing. I’m admiring how gorgeous you are.” His softly spoken words increase my exuberant mood.
Rather than admit how Finn makes me feel, I laugh his comment off. “Come on, Casanova. Let’s go.”
