We watch a few minutes of the game together, our faces pressed to the metal. As the sun begins to set our direction changes toward the wharf.

“The sunset is beautiful over the bay.” I don’t mean to say the words out loud, but I must because Finn answers me.

“It is. As a kid I used to love when we’d stay late in the city. The sun fades from brilliant orange and the city lights begin to take over the horizon. You make it to the bottom and can look back on rows and rows of civilization. It has always fascinated me.

“I enjoy building stuff, but I do it digitally. I make my own little cities in a weird way and it all started here for me.”

Finn is right. As the daylight fades the city turns on its lights. The view of the bridge lit up is spectacular. I’ve been out at night, of course, but I’ve never taken in the raw beauty as I do now. I may never be able to view city lights the same again. We can even see Sausalito across the water.

As darkness takes over, we stop in and order pizza from a local pizzeria we pass by. One even Finn hasn’t been to before. As we sit at one of their small round tables with black padded chairs and discuss the food, I’m taken with how much I enjoy making a first with Finn.

He’s been my inside guide to the city so far and I’ve appreciated his take on all the fun places to go and see, but I love the fact we’ve found someplace new together. I wonder how many more we can have.
