I wanted this family to be mine. No one said it was going to be easy, but at least we’ll never get bored. Worse comes to worse, we could always go golfing with the Creator. He looked like he would be a drinker, and drinking was my next favorite sport.
It would just be all in a day’s work of being Lucifer's daughter's mate.
Epilogue
Afterthebigrevelationof why Pop Pop let the crazies take him, I started to yawn, feeling my body turn sluggish and my mates said they wanted to take me home. Pop Pop said that was a good idea because I only had five minutes to make it back to Hell before things got real messy. My father decided to stay behind and work out all the kinks with Pop Pop and Uncle Michael but said that he would be home in time for me to be sober and have a good chat about our future.
When I turned around and glared at him, he rolled his eyes but walked up to me and cupped my face in his hands lovingly. At that moment, I felt more like a daughter with her father instead of the current and past rulers of Hell.
He kissed my forehead and told me that he had an idea where maybe we could co-rule Hell, give each other some time off to live a little. I could go to the human realm and run my company while he ruled, and when he passed over the rulership, he could go golfing and hang out with his family. He was thinking that bugging Uncle Michael was going to be his new pet project, saying he needed to loosen up that “old stick in the mud”.
I grabbed his hand and squeezed it, telling him that was a great idea. I think he needed his family more than he knew. He told me to go rest and he would be back before I woke up to work out the details but that he was very proud of me. For once, I got the words I've always wanted to hear from him and it felt amazing.
At that point, I think my power drunk mind took over, and I told him to not come over too soon because my immediate future was filled with me planning to getfilled. He started to gag and dry heave as he waved over my mates to take me away. Apparently, he also threatened them or something, but I wasn't listening because War had decided I was getting too wiggly and threw me over his shoulder.
It was all fun and games until I fell asleep hanging behind his back, and they decided I’d had a big day, almost dying and all, so I should take a nap.
After the nap, I was woken up by Reggie. “Majesty, you have a visitor.”
I mumbled into the pillow, “Tell them I'm busy.”
I started to stretch out, thinking I would hit one of my mates' bodies and convince them to have a good time with me. But I hit nothing. I sat up suddenly, looked at Reggie as I demanded, “Where the fuck are my mates, and why do they always leave me when I’m fucking sleeping?” I started to whine at the end, but Reggie had no sympathy for me.
“It seems that your father came by and… commandeered them to go on a boys’ outing. He wanted to get to know them on a… deeper level.” Reggie’s eyes sparked with mischief even as his mouth was pressed into a thin line like normal.
“Oh. Well… I guess that's good. Right?” I bit my lip, trying to figure out if I was scared or relieved.
“It should be fine… mostly.” Reggie got up and something hit me like a train.
“The hounds! Are they ok?” I quickly sat up and looked around the room for them.
Reggie smiled. “They are fine. I guess as soon as the angel and demon showed up, they went to the nearest circle and found the prince and told him everything. Mod popped up in the conference room and told me to call all the other princes. They were all here, talking about starting a war, when your mates came into the house with you over their shoulder and passed out.”
I let out a big breath, glad my hounds are so smart when Reggie started for the door. “You have a guest waiting for you in the princes’ conference room.”
Before I could ask him which one it was, he shut the door.
Well, I should’ve seen that one coming. I rushed to get ready, taking a quick shower, and looked through my closet for something regal to wear. In the end, I chose to just wear a red sundress that I could throw over my head with some black flats. I didn't need to impress the princes. They knew who I was, and I needed to be comfortable.
I went down the stairs and made my way over to the princes’ conference room. I always felt that it kinda sucked that they only had a conference room in which to wait for us… Maybe while the boys were away, I could practice my house designing. Start with that room, maybe put in a couch and a TV. Make it more of a hang out for them to escape their circles from time to time. Every once in a while, we could all hang out. I liked most of them, except for Abaddon, but maybe he would be less of a dick if he had somewhere comfy to nap?
As soon as I entered the room, I knew I should’ve expected him. I had been dodging him since I got here, not really knowing how I felt about being back, feeling guilty that I’d just shown up with mates, not really knowing how I felt about them either.
But I did now. Almost dying for them had given me perspective, and I knew where I stood with them and them with me. I had more confidence in us to be able to have this talk with him, Leviathan, the prince of the Pride circle, my first love, first boyfriend, and the guy I’d lost my virginity to. The guy I’d left behind when I ran away from Hell to make a life for myself on the Human plane.
“Hello, Lily, or should I call youYour Majesty?” His tone held notes of humor, but I could also tell he was on guard.
I gave him a small smile as I closed the door behind me. “Lily is fine. I keep trying to get Reggie to stop calling me Your Majesty… It just sounds weird.”
He looked down at the table and laughed out of his nose.
“Yeah, that sounds like him.” He looked back up to me, his eyes roaming all over my face like he was drinking me in. His gaze traveled down and stopped as soon as he got to my wrists and my mate marks. His eyes darkened, but he quickly hid it behind his usual cocksure attitude. Well, at least nothing had changed.
“So it's true.” I saw a flash of pain in his eyes, and I felt like shit. I should've been the one to tell him. I should've given him that respect for all that he’d given me, for all that we’d been together.
I took a breath, ready to own up where I fucked up. “Levi, I'm sorry.”
He did a double take, mouth opened in surprise that I would shut down my pride and be vulnerable with him in a way I never had been before.
