A smile tugs at the corners of her lips. “Don’t start anything you can’t finish. You don’t have to try to turn me on. A little late for that.”

That makes two of us. “I remember plenty of finishing happening between us.” I dip down and find her ear. “Did you think I would let yesterday’s little stunt slide?”

Her soft chuckle sounds the same as the one during our late-night talks before we fall asleep. “Which one?”

Taking both hands, I slip underneath the blanket and knead her breasts, rolling her hardening nipples against my palm. When she lets out a breathy moan, I pull away and lower my voice. “Oops.”

She bites her bottom lip and huffs a laugh. “Watch your six. I know where you sleep.”

Yes, and that pillow wall feels like the side of a castle that I want to bulldoze.

“Did you think I was referring to our kiss yesterday?” I ask curiously. “Although I wouldn’t consider it a proper kiss.” Still standing behind her head, I form a loose C with my hands and pull inward on the tops of her shoulder muscles, adding just the right amount of firm pressure with my thumbs.

She lets out a satisfied sigh. “That feels amazing.” Her hooded eyes find mine, a teasing grin on her face. “Are you going to remind me what’s considered proper, then?”

I pause my hands and hold her gaze. “Since you asked…” Slowly, I lower and brush our lips together. I feel her smile against mine, and we lock lips again. This time, I deepen the kiss. Remembering how good she feels, I melt into her touch. When she runs her tongue along my top lip, the throbbing between my thighs quickens as I welcome her. Our tongues dance at a steady rhythm until we part for air.

“I think Spider-Man would be jealous,” she whispers.

I take in the alluring dark eyes that make my thoughts melt away once more, then I add space between us, recalling that we need to leave this room in a few minutes and that I only have one pair of panties on hand. “If only my hands literally shot webs, we’d be an unstoppable team.”

Using her long arms, she pulls me in for another kiss. “Or you could launch one over Victoria’s mouth.”

That’s a wonderful mental image. Nothing could stop my grin at this moment. Maybe Riley was right when she said to have fun. I plant a kiss on her hand. “I love it when you talk dirty to me.”

That makes her laugh. “If you thinkthatwas dirty talk, you’re in big trouble.”

Smiling, my mind flashes back when I was lying on the deck reading my book, getting swept away in a fantasy involving Caroline’s skillful tongue. “I can only hope.”

CHAPTER 15

CAROLINE

“How’s the vacation?”Kaydence asks during our video chat. I switch my phone camera to point at the beach and slowly move my hand side to side, showing the clear blue water from the deck.

“Enjoying another perfect afternoon.” A grin forms across my lips watching her and Rosie’s faces light up in awe. She eases Rosie down from her lap to go play. As a part of my godmother duties, once a week I video chat with the little one. Actually, Rosie sneaks into Kaydence’s bag and starts pressing buttons on her phone. Regardless, I’m always delighted to see her adorable, tiny face. Kaydence and I are due for an update anyhow. With most of our cases, check-ins are on an as-needed basis; however, this client’s high-dollar sign and perks come with high demands, including daily, comprehensive reports. Thankfully, Kaydence handles those.

“So, married life is for you after all?”

“I wouldn’t go that far.” I scoff, not wanting to look like I’m enjoying myself more than I should. “I’m stuck in this villa with my target, who practically sleeps naked every night. My back still hasn’t recovered from sleeping on a hard loveseat. I’mnevergoing to a couples thera—relationship coach ever again. Right now, I’m the middle of some type ofMean Girlsfeud. Worst of all, I’m competing in an Olympic tournament that considers furniture assembly a sport.”

“I’m impressed you’ve survived being around someone that pretentious this long, and I’m a little jealous of the fun activities.”

There’s no point in bringing up kissing Basil since it has no bearing on the client updates. That, and I’ve decided to keep my distance from now on. “She’s not bad once you get to know her. Complex, but there’s a heart inside her chest.” I change the subject before oversharing. “It’s impossible to not fall in love with this gorgeous island.”

“Don’t tell Nikita, but since we didn’t have a honeymoon, I’m trying to surprise her with a trip to Sapphire Isle. It also gives us a chance to check out Bangkok for a few nights. Too bad the waitlist is over eighteen months now.”

I tilt my head. “Is that why you wanted me to take this case, conning me with a vacation? One that conveniently involves the owners of the resort?”

“No, Iencouragedyou to take a stress-free vacation, which I’m starting to believe isn’t possible. You meeting the owners was a complete coincidence. I provided you with a change of scenery. Even your car told me it was sick of your company.” She laughs. “The money is incredible, as will be my ten percent differential for the overtime I’ve put in. Thank you for that in advance, by the way.”

“You’re lucky the food here is amazing.” I recall Kaydence and Nikita discussing opting out of a wedding reception and fancy vacation to save money for purchasing their house. Given this client’s level of exacting standards, she deserves every dime, and she and Nikita deserve the best honeymoon. “You two would love it here. ”

I peer out at the endless water, taking in the smell of clean air while silence spreads between us. When I return to the camera, her eyes are down as if she’s in deep thought. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.”

“Something wrong? Is everyone okay?”

“Yeah. Everyone’s safe and fine. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to say this.” Her eyes meet mine. “I need you to take over client communications.”
