"Yes!"
My boy throws himself at me, and I fall on my ass, but I don't care. I can't stop smiling. I don't think I've ever been this happy.
He peppers my face with kisses, and I laugh, giving him everything he wants.
"Put the ring on meee." He waves his left hand wildly in front of my face.
"You're impatient, boy," I tease.
"I want it!"
"You already have it."
I take the ring out of the box and, with slightly shaking hands, slide it onto his finger. His lower lip trembles and tears streak his cheek, but the happiness in his eyes is undeniable.
I look down at his hand and feel my heart skip a beat.
The ring is perfect for my boy. The band is simple, but in the middle sits a small bunny made of diamonds. I had it custom-made the night after I watched him kill a man. I knew that one day, sooner or later, I'd want to propose to him, to make him mine forever.
And we will be together forever. There won't be a divorce for us. I'm certain of that, just like I'm certain of our love.
"I love it, Daddy. I love it so much."
"I'm glad, my boy."
"I'll be your husband!" He squeals, launching himself into my arms.
I bury my face in his neck and inhale deeply. He's everything to me, and seeing him this happy, because of me, means the world.
We stay like this a little longer, just basking in the moment. Then my boy's curiosity turns to the box I brought.
"Go ahead. Open it."
He hurries to do as I say. When he sees the cute pajamas with rainbows and little animals, he screams.
"Is this for me!?"
"Of course it is, boy. You didn't think you'd be playing on the playground with that outfit, did you?"
"You're the best Daddy in the world!"
He kisses me. When he pulls back, I see all his love, and all his darkness too. I don't look away. I never will.
"And you're all mine," he adds.
I claim his lips.
We don't need more words.
Both of us know the truth, and nothing and no one can ever change it.
Chapter forty-one
Sebastian
This is the best day of my life.
Daddy made it so special. I feel completely spoiled.
