“Maybe?” His expression is stern, but I’m not intimidated.

“Yes. Maybe,” I tease, my tone sassy.

“You should be careful. If you don’t do what I say, there will be consequences.”

My hands drop away from his body. “What is this word? It means punishment?”

“In this case, yes.”

“Once was not too much for you? You do not feel bad for what you do?”

“What I did when? When I spanked you at Egorov’s party?”

“Yes, then.”

“No.” His tone when he says this is very calm and cool. It annoys me.

“You should.”

He’s silent and seems unmoved. This, I also don’t like. We were strangers. It’s true I picked him to do the punishing, but he could have refused and tried to stop the other men from doing it. Instead he spanked me in front of them, and the worst of it was that he let Egorov get his way in humiliating me.

Just as he didn’t do anything to free me outright when he found me in the cage. He fought to win me, but he’s done me no real favor. He won a lot of money in the fight, plus a girl to toy with. I need to remember that. I like his looks and his voice, and perhaps that clouds my judgment too much.

“What did Egorov say? Did he want to see me?”

“Yes, he wants to buy you from me.”

I stiffen. “You said no?”

“You’re still here.”

“Will you? If I’m not pleasing to you?”

“It’s your job to please me, so that’s what you’re going to do. Egorov’s got nothing to do with it.”

“I want your promise. Say it.” When he doesn’t speak, I beg more softly, “Please promise.”

“I won’t sell you to him.”

“No matter what happens?” I press.

“I gave you an answer already.”

My eyes glare at him. “It costs you nothing to speak nice to me.”

“Doesn’t it? When I was nice to you last time, you stole from me. Being soft where you’re concerned isn’t a good strategy.” He beckons me to walk with him to a computer.

“What?”

“We have to order you some clothes.”

I glance down at the t-shirt dress. “Where did you get this?”

He shrugs. “A neighbor.”

“Your girlfriend?”

“No.”
