Trust me, I sometimes can’t believe it either.

Another thing I can’t believe: I’m actually in better shape now that I’ve been working out regularly with him. That and all the sex. He’s going to be an amazing trainer for other clients too. He’s been motivating me and kicking my ass into gear all at the same time. When he’s gone, I have trouble making it to the gym without him.

I meet up with Jaelynn and some other friends for brunch on Sunday while he’s away. They bring up the topic of me getting into something new too fast. Again. I can tell that Jaelynn has been in their ears about what happened at the club.

“He’s seriously your boyfriend?” Allie can’t believe it either.

“Yes, Allie. He’s seriously my boyfriend.”

She leans back and sighs, still in disbelief.

Jaelynn speaks up next. “He’s away right now, though, right?”

“Yeah.” I wave my hand at her, knowing there’s more.

“So you’re not worried he’s out at some strip club with his guys?”

“No! Oh my god, Jaelynn, it’s like you want this to fail.”

“No,” she says, “I don’t. I swear, I’m just worried about you. It’s barely been a few weeks and you’re calling him your boyfriend, and looking at him with those big, goofy googly eyes.”

“Big, goofy googly eyes?” I roll my eyes at her.

“You know what I mean.”

“Look, it’s not like he was a stranger before all of this. I’ve known him for years through Jordan. She trusts him, and that alonemakes me trust him. We’ve been friends and it’s like this has been building up, to be honest.”

“Oh, right,” Jaelynn is quiet, “I forgot you were friends before.”

“Exactly, and I know he’s not a cheater. I know him, I promise you that.”

“We’re just looking out for you, Harper,” Allie says.

“I know.” I look at both of them in turn. “But I’m fine, okay? We’re fine. Can we eat brunch now?”

They both laugh.

When I get home, I’m missing Taylor more than ever. He’s not going to be back until Tuesday, and I want him after all that talk from my friends. I know they mean well but at the same time I wish they wouldn’t have tried to put that in my ear. Now I want to be in his arms, to have him kissing me, to have him inside me.

I do have the next best thing, though. Well, at least as best as I can get while he’s gone. I get the rubber Taylor out of my drawer and put on one of the shirts he’s left behind. It smells like him. I bring a wooden kitchen chair close to the couch, his favorite spot, and attach rubber Taylor at just the right angle on the chair.

I lean over the couch and brush my hands up my torso to my breasts, imagining it’s the real Taylor coming up from behindme. I hook my feet around the chair and push against the couch to anchor it and tease the tip of the toy at my folds. I bend my knees and slide it inside me, backing into it. When I straighten up and push it into me again, I sigh. It’s not the same. I need the real Taylor.

It’s pretty late and I know the game is over and they won. I watched him play, of course. He should be home, but what if I call him about this and he’s busy? I take the chance anyway and video chat him. Bold move, I know. I need to see his face. He answers and sees me in his shirt and I can tell it has some effect on him.

“You’re wearing my shirt.” His voice is gruff.

“It smells like you, and I miss you.” No use beating around the bush.

“I’ll be home soon, Harps. And I promise you I’ll make up for every minute I’ve been gone.”

I bite my lip. “Maybe you can make it up to me right now?”

“Oh? How can I do that?”

“See, I have this thing that I used to do before we got together.”

“Let me guess, it involves something with batteries?”
