“Smart girl,” Javier said, smiling. “Did they keep you long for questioning?”

“No. When Odette casually let it drop that her uncle is the district attorney for LA County, they were suddenly a lot more cognizant of my rights as a free citizen.”

That was a little concerning. “Damn, angel. You got friends in high places.”

“Not really. I was just as surprised to find out that information as they were. She’d never mentioned it.”

Javier made a noncommittal noise. He didn’t care about Odette or her family. He only cared about one thing. “Are you doing okay?”

Bowie seemed to hesitate before asking, “In what way?”

Javier frowned. “In every way. I’m sure being back in a police station wasn’t easy for you. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

“Seems a small price to pay if it means I’m safe.”

“Do you feel safe now?” Javier asked.

He hesitated, his voice soft as he said, “Not as safe as I felt when you were walking me to school in the morning.”

“I won’t be gone forever.”

Bowie groaned, sounding like he hit a pillow or maybe flounced back onto the bed. “A few weeks feels like forever.”

“Well, just close your eyes and pretend I’m lying next to you,” Javier crooned.

“I don’t think you’d fit on my twin bed,” Bowie said with something close to a giggle that went straight to Javier’s cock.

“Then pretend we’re in my bed. You can do that, can’t you?”

There was a slight uptick in his breath. “Okay. Then what?” There was so much promise in Bowie’s question. It told Javier that, despite the minor freak out in Javier’s bedroom, he was still willing. Maybe a thousand miles between them made Bowie feel a bit bold. Whatever it was, Javier wasn’t willing to exploit it. Not yet, anyway.

“Tell me about your day.”

“Really?” Bowie asked, his tone a strange mixture of surprised and disappointed.

Javier smiled. Bowie sure did have a dirty mind. That was going to come in handy eventually. “I mean, unless you have some other…pressing matter you need me to attend to. Anything pop up while we were on the phone? Some…hard problem you might need me to take care of for you?”

Once more, that shuddery breath. “I’m… My roommates are home,” he whispered into the phone.

Javier licked his lower lip, palming his dick, which was rock hard in his sweatpants. “Like I said, tell me about your day. Don’t leave anything out.”

As Bowie talked, Javier lay with his eyes closed, just listening to Bowie’s voice and the sounds going on around him. Doors opening and closing, girls voices arriving and departing, demanding to know who Bowie was talking to, screaming as they dodged objects being hurled in their direction from an exasperated Bowie.

He seemed to take it all in stride, clearly used to the interruptions. Javier didn’t mind either. He liked having this voyeuristic glimpse into Bowie’s world. But he wondered if the conversation would have taken a decidedly different turn if they’d been alone.

Javier wasn’t sure how long they talked, but the sun was down by the time Bowie said, “I should probably go.”

Javier nodded even though Bowie couldn’t see him. “Okay.”

“Are you gonna call me again?” Bowie asked, a little breathless.

Javier smiled. “Do you want me to call you again?” he teased.

“Yes, please.”

Hearing that word on Bowie’s lips was torture. “You don’t have to say please, angel.”

Bowie let out a shaky breath before asking, “Javier?”
