“Ugh, you two are so mean!!!”
Gallan stepped closer to me. “No, we aren’t. We just love teasing you,” he told Kenzie.
She huffed. “You guys are like those suffocatingly annoying couples who have the same opinion on everything. Doesn’t mean you’re right.” She clicked her tongue. “I can’t wait for the time when you two start looking alike. That’s what happens to couples like you. That’s what youdeserve. Muahahahaha!”
I looked at Gallan, whose brows were furrowed in utter confusion. When our eyes met, his widened like saucers.
“Where did you find this creature?” he asked me.
I laughed. “I think she’d just escaped an amusement park after working there as a mascot for 3 years when I found her.”
Gallan bit the inside of his cheek. “The costume, and the sweat it absorbs – they’ve really done a number on her, it seems.”
“Don’t forget farts and burps,” I said to him. “The costume also absorbs the smell of those two.”
Gallan laughed airily. “Can’t forget that, obviously.”
“Uh, EX-SQUEEZE ME?!?! I can hear you two, remember?!” Kenzie yelled. “Also, I’ve never worked as a mascot at an amusement park! Or a mascotanywhere, for that matter. I’m not even mascot material!”
Gallan chuckled as he shook his head. “Okay, okay; I get it. Will you kindly relax a little and not scream your lungs out?”
Kenzie made an undecipherable noise. “Whatevs. I gotta go. I have to get ready for a hot date tonight. I’ll see you assholes tomorrow.”
“You ditched work to get ready for adate?” I asked her. “Why do you need an entire day for that? Also, who is your date? Where and when did you meet him?”
“Calm down,Mom,” she mused. “I have a salon appointment before the date that I couldn’t miss. My date is the same guy I told you about a few days ago. His name’s Hayden, and I met him at the club. You were there, don’t you remember?”
“I thought it was some guy named Rob you left the club with.”
“For the last time, Z: it was HAYDEN, not ROB. I don’t know why you keep thinking there’s a Rob. There’snoRob, just like there’s no Alejandro.”
I tilted my head to the side. “Whose Alejandro?” I asked.
“Oh-my-God, seriously?”
Next to me, Gallan chuckled.
“What?” I told him.
He put his tongue to his cheek. “Alejandro is your imaginary Dom, babe. You forgot him already? He’ll be so damn heartbroken to know that.”
I scowled at him. “Careful, Gall; your dickhead side is showing.”
Kenzie laughed. “How does that feel, Z? Don’t like it when the tables turn, do you?”
I rolled my eyes. “Have fun on your date. I’ll talk to you later.”
She laughed harder at that.
With another roll of my eyes, I ended the call and slid my phone into my back pocket.
“You’re all pouty and cute right now,” Gallan said.
I flipped him off, which made him laugh. “And you say you aren’t an asshole.”
He winked. “I’m not.”
I shook my head. “What’re you doing here? Didn’t you say you were gonna be at Stage 20?”
