“There goes my favorite cologne,” I said in defeat. The rat had knocked it down, and was looking at Zaira and I likewewere the ones trespassing over his property, and not the other way around.

“Uh, I think we should get that thing outta here,” Zaira said with a pout.

“Youthink?”

She rolled her eyes. “The window – let’s try to get it out of there.”

“Good idea.”

We looked at each other, unsure of what to do next.

“Well…?” she said.

“I thought you were going to volunteer this time,” I joked.

“But I don’t know the first thing about shooing rats,” she voiced in all seriousness.

“Yeah, and judging by the mess I’ve made in here, neither do I.”

“But we gotta do what we gotta do,” she said.

I sighed and glanced at the rat, who was still looking at us. “True. Let’s do this, then.”

Zaira swallowed and pushed her glasses up her nose. “Right behind you, Captain.”

I chuckled.

It was time for some rat-chasing…

AGAIN.

Lord have mercy.
