I raised a brow. “I didn’t ask for forgiveness.”
“But you were going to.” What a cocky ass. Cocky, and unbelievablyhandsome.
“I wasn’t going to,” I said.
“Hmm… Okay, if you say so.”
“You ignored me the whole week. I got you your coffee every morning after giving you the book, and you didn’t even acknowledge me. Not once.”
Something shifted in his eyes at that. “Do you want me to be honest about it, or do you want me to lie?”
My heart hammered in my chest. “Honest.”
He blinked once. “I’m madly attracted to you, Zaira,” he said, and those words took the breath right out of me. “I’m so fucking attracted to you that it scares me. I think about you like it’s nobody’s business, and I’ve been trying to come up with ways to ask you out on a date ever since you first smiled at me. Shane says what I’m experiencing isn’t good for my career, but fuck if I care what he thinks. I want what I want, and what I want isyou.”
I inhaled sharply, and felt heat creep up my body at the sincerity in his words, at the honesty on his face. But above it all, it were his eyes that displayed his truth.
Gallan’s eyes were an ocean of stories, of things he didn’t say, but preferred only to show.
I wanted to tell him something, but I didn’t know what. I’d been attracted to him even before he knew me. I looked up to him; I was inspired by him. And the fact that he felt what he said he did, for someone likeme, meant the absolute world to me.
Why don’t you wanna chase me, then?I wanted to question him.If you’re attracted to me, then why don’t you wanna give into the run?
Gallan let go of my hand and stepped back, and the expression on his face changed from intense to carefree. “So, anyways. Are you hungry?” he asked.
Uh…
Wow, that was a quick shift of behavior.
“Umm…” I glanced at the destroyed food table. “I am, but…”
He chuckled, and then pointed behind me with a finger. “The kitchen cabinets are always locked. With a little help from you, I think we’ll be able to clean the countertop and make it accessible again.”
He appeared a little too eager to do anything but talk about his confession to me.
Oh well…
I looked at the kitchen. There were wood pieces and torn pillows thrown on the counter, but other than that, everything seemed to be in good shape.
I pushed my glasses up my nose when they slipped down a little. “You really went wild over the rat, huh?” I asked Gallan.
He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. “I may have taken things a little too seriously.”
I chuckled. “I don’t see it now, the rat. You think it ran away?”
“Doubt it, but I hope it did.”
I nodded. “Well, let’s get to cleaning, then, because I’mstarving.”
He laughed. “Yeah, of course. Let’s do it,” he said with a smile.
