“No, no,” I cut him off. “It’s nothing like that. I’ve interrogated her at least two hundred times in the last 48 hours. If there was something serious, she’d have spit it out – either in annoyance, or by accident.”
“You’re a good friend,” Gallan said, which made me smile.
“Thank you.”
“You got it. So…” There was a noise, and then, “Whoops, hold on, babe.”
I laughed. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to open my salad container with one hand and failing marvelously.”
I grinned. “I thought you’d have already had your lunch by now.”
Gallan huffed, and then sighed. “Finally,” he mumbled. “Uh, what did you say, Zaira?”
I chuckled. “I said: I thought you’d have already had your lunch by now.”
“No, I didn’t. A scene ran longer than we’d thought it would, and I’ve only just now sat down in my trailer to relax.”
“Ross works you hard, huh?”
He groaned a little. “I just wanna snuggle with you in bed. I’m tired.”
I pushed some hair behind my ear. “Didn’t take you as one who got tired over a scene, babe.”
Gallan sighed again, and I don’t know what it was about that action, but I sensed something pressing in it. Strained even.
“Gall?”
There was a pause. I heard him chewing on his salad, and waited patiently until he said, “Yeah?”
“Something’s wrong.” A statement.
He was quiet for a while, and it made me restless; it made me shift on my feet.
“Gall…” I voiced a little urgently. “Tell me.”
He let go of a long breath. “It’s nothing, Zaira.”
“Bullshit.”
Another pause.
“It’s nothing concrete. It’s just… I could be wrong about it.”
“About what?” I asked in agitation.
“I wanted to tell you this in person. I wasn’t going to keep this from you. I just feel like now is not the time to–”
“Fucking tell me already, Gall.”
He muttered a curse. “Promise me you won’t think much of it? Promise me that you’ll not act on it?”
I dug my fingers into my hair. “I won’t promise you shit until you tell me what you’re talking about.” God, who knew Gallan could be this frustrating.
“Zaira…” His voice held firmness. A bit of warning.
I rolled my eyes. “Fine, I promise. Just spit it out now.”
