He nodded but there wasn’t an ounce of remorse when he replied, “And I mean every word of it.”
What the heck was I supposed to say to that? It sounded absolutely bonkers for a man to declare that he would openly commit physical harm to someone for me. And yet …
“I must be a little crazy too because I’m turned on right now.”
His hazel eyes sparked with desire. “Lay back against the bed and show me.” His voice deepened a couple of levels.
A thrill of excitement shot through my body.
“Say please,” I taunted.
He frowned, which made me laugh.
“You want me to beg?”
I nodded.
“If I do, you know that’s a red ass for you as soon as I get my hands on you.” It came out sounding just like the threat he intended it to be.
My nipples ached with need.
I unbuttoned the pajama shirt I had on, exposing my breasts. Brutus licked his lips.
“Show me the rest.” His voice was thick with desire.
This wasn’t the first time we’d had phone sex in the weeks since he’d gone back home. While it was better than nothing, it left me wanting. Each time I hung up the phone it got more and more difficult.
My days were filled with me learning about coffee beans and making connections for my business, but damn it, I wanted nothing more than to return to Williamsport. Just to be in the same space as him again.
What if it’s different when I get home?
That old, familiar doubt crept in, despite how much I tried to keep it at bay.
By the time I got off the phone with Brutus that night, I felt torn in two. Half of me wanted to stay and finish what I’d set out to do. The other half of me wanted to get on a plane and be in his arms as soon as possible so I could prove that this thing was real. Not just a vacation fling that we were trying to hold onto for too long.
CHAPTER13
Brutus
“You haven’t heard anything else from Taggert, have you?” I asked Joseph as we stood in my office on the bottom floor of Townsend Industries.
“Not since you had us pay him a visit.” He nodded. “I’m sure he got the message.”
I closed the file in front of me. “Good. I’m headed up to Aaron’s office for a meeting to discuss the security details for the upcoming charity gala.”
Joseph checked his watch. “I’ll be heading out in about fifteen minutes to meet Robert and Deborah for their flight.”
The elder Townsends were going out of town for a few days. “Let me know if there are any issues.”
“Always.”
Instead of using the private elevators, I took the public elevator that all employees and visitors accessed throughout the day. I liked to take the general route to sweep the landscape visually. It was a simple precaution to make sure everything was running smoothly.
As soon as I entered Aaron’s outer office, his assistant waved me in. “He’s waiting for you.”
I passed down the hall to Aaron Townsend’s corner office on one of the top floors of Townsend Industries.
“Brutus,” he greeted as he stood from his chair. He waved me in, that typical scowl on his face. It didn’t offend me since he wore it with everyone. Save for his wife and kids.
