“This is breathtaking,” I said.

“You haven’t answered me,” Brutus reminded me.

Blinking, I laughed. “Yes, of course yes! I’ll marry you.”

He rose to his feet faster than a man his size should be able to and scooped me into his arms. Laughter bubbled up my throat when he spun us around in a circle after putting the ring on my finger.

Who would’ve thought that quitting my job and finally following my dreams would also lead me to the man I couldn’t live without?

CHAPTER32

Mia

“You look stunning,” Carlene gushed as we sashayed toward the nightclub we’d decided to go to for the night. It was only three weeks since Brutus proposed. However, Carlene, Sharise, Michelle, Kayla, Patience Townsend, and I had all met up for dinner and were then headed toward the club to dance the night away.

“She's right,” Sharise agreed.

I shimmied my hips a little in the tight, formfitting black jeans I wore with a sheer black top, with a leopard-print jacket that was in the style of a cape. It left plenty of room for my sheer top to display the beautiful way my titties were sitting in the black silk bra I wore underneath the shirt.

Brutus’ head almost exploded when he saw me come out of the room, dressed to go out.

“I have to agree,” Patience said as we approached her, Kayla, and Michelle. Destiny, who was on the verge of delivering at any moment, remained at home. Even though she’d wanted to come, Tyler put his foot down on the matter.

All three women had agreed to accompany Sharise, me, and Carlene for my supposed bachelorette party. I say supposed because no matter how many times I told Carlene that it was too early for a bachelorette party, she insisted. She was getting married in a month, so I’d told Brutus that once my best friend was married, we could sit down and discuss the details for our wedding.

The man typically had the patience of an owl, but he hadn’t liked the idea of putting off setting a wedding date, even if it was only a month.

“I’m surprised Brutus let you out of the house in that,” Kayla said.

“Tuh,” Carlene tutted. “You should’ve seen him. If Sharise and I weren’t there, I doubt he would’ve let her come out.”

I waved her off, laughing because she was right. He had almost blown a gasket.

“Well, we’re here. That’s what’s important,” I said. “Ready to celebrate, ladies?” I asked, throwing my hands up.

A round of cheers rent the air, and I became renewed with energy for the night. In the months since meeting and falling in love with Brutus, it felt like I’d also gained the women he worked with as new friends. They were all so sweet and welcoming. But from what I’d seen of their husbands, I was surprised they could make it out of the house in some of their outfits. Brutus had some of the same jealous and possessive streaks I’d seen in their husbands.

“Reservation for Raymond,” I told the security working the door at the upscale nightclub.

He nodded and stepped aside, easily letting us in. “Guess it pays to have connections,” Carlene said in my ear.

“Guess so.”

“Who wants a drink?” I asked.

Everyone shot up a hand.

“With five kids, I think you deserve one first,” Sharise said to Patience, who laughed.

“First round’s on me,” Patience offered.

“Absolutely not,” I countered. “All of you ladies came out to celebrate with me, and I truly appreciate it. Let me buy the first round.” I’d never wanted to have a traditional bachelorette party, and the fact that my best friend was getting married in less than a month made me less inclined for one of those.

But the women around me had insisted on some sort of celebration. The least I could do was buy them all a drink.

“No,” Kayla said. “This is your night. Besides, we’ve already reserved our spot in the upstairs section.” She pointed over her shoulder.

I peered up to see the cordoned off area that Kayla pointed to.
