She yelped when I flipped her onto her back before moving over her. “They’re fine.” I had intentions of checking on both of them later. “I’m not letting you out of this room for at least another twenty-four hours.”
“That’s obscene. What if I have to go to the bathroom?” she quipped.
I rolled us over, so she was on top while I held on to her globes, pressing her against me. That vein in her neck began throbbing, and her breathing altered.
My wolf whimpered.Take her.
I had every intention of following my wolf’s directive, but Reese’s stomach growled.
“Or, I get hungry?” she added.
I chuckled and kissed her forehead. “You can leave to go to the bathroom and only the bathroom.” I squeezed her ass before moving her off of me. “I will make us something to eat.”
Reluctantly, I peeled myself away from my mate and the bed to retrieve a pair of pajama bottoms. The house was empty save for the two of us, but I could sense my brother approaching.
“Thank you,” Reese hummed as she lay back against the pillows. Her nakedness tempted me to mount her like the beast inside of me ordered. But she needed to eat.
“Don’t move,” I instructed and exited the bedroom before I listened to my wolf.

As I entered the kitchen,I spotted Chance passing in front of the greenhouse with Henry at his side. I waved him inside while I grabbed some uncooked steak, eggs, and some fruit from the refrigerator.
“He missed her,”Chance explained as he entered the kitchen, gesturing toward Henry. I washed my hands before stooping low to feed Henry a piece of a banana from a bowl on the counter. He chewed it up greedily.
I laughed, looking at Henry. “I think he enjoys bananas more than applesauce.” I stroked his head and then looked up at my brother.
Chance shook his head, letting me know he hadn’t been able to read my lips since I spoke the words out loud.
“Sorry, brother,”I restated what I’d said, and he nodded.
“Montgomery is still unconscious, but Dr. Drake believes he’ll recover. Whatever they gave him slowed his healing abilities, but the wound to his stomach is improving.”
I turned to my brother. “That’s good. And Sera?”
“She’s healing well. She hasn’t left his side.”
He gave me a strange look.
I shrugged. “I have no idea what’s going on with that, either,” I told him, knowing he was as confused as I was.
Chance shook his head. “Fated mates.”He sounded disgusted. I knew my brother hadn’t taken to the idea of being fated to any woman. As I was the alpha of our pack and hadn’t met my mate, he was free to not think about it. Now that I’d found Reese, everyone in our pack knew it was his turn next.
“I’ve brought your mate’s chocolates.” He placed the offending candy on the table.
I chuckled at the look of horror on his face as he looked over the Reese’s peanut butter cups and the caramel-filled chocolate bars I’d asked him to retrieve for Reese.
“Thank you, brother.”I sighed. “Once Montgomery awakens, I’ll have to question him on what happened and how he ended up with Pines.”
“We need to track him down,”Chance said regarding Pines.
I nodded knowingly. After we failed to locate Pines, I had Micah report to the authorities about Charlotte Rowe. As far as most were concerned, Charlotte Rowe was a casualty of the doctor she was investigating for the mistreatment of residents at Creekview Nursing Home.
We kept news about wolves and shifters confined, but Pines was still on the loose.
Now that I knew he was working with at least one shifter, he was more dangerous than I initially believed.
“Do we have Christophe monitoring all of his financial accounts?”I asked.
