Montgomery had been on the verge of death, but luckily, we got him back inside and found some of Pines’s medical supplies. Chance and I were able to stop the bleeding from the wounds on his body and patch them up to allow his body to start the healing process.

I suspected Montgomery was given some sort of anecdote or concoction that somehow thwarted his body’s natural healing abilities. He should’ve at least awakened by then. We were almost back at our commune.

I rechecked the rearview mirror to find Sera still clutching hold of him, her face concerned.

“Dr. Drake is already waiting for us to arrive.”

That appeased Reese, and she didn’t say anything further.

Twenty minutes later, we turned onto the main road of the commune to find almost the entire pack out in force. Some were shifted while others remained in their human forms.

I came to a screeching halt in front of Dr. Drake’s clinic and hopped out of the truck. Before closing the door, I pointed at Reese. “You stay right there.”

She froze, and I glared at her before slamming the door and yanking the back one open. Sera jerked, and her eyes went wide as if noticing for the first time we were back home.

“I can help,” she said as I picked up Montgomery’s body from her hold.

“You will do no such thing,” I seethed.

Chance appeared at my side and helped me carry Montgomery into Dr. Drake’s, who had a gurney waiting for him.

“We’ll take it from here, Alpha,” Dr. Drake said, both he and his nurse nodding at Chance and me.

“She’s injured too.” I pointed at Sera, who followed us inside.

“Come with me.” Dr. Drake’s nurse beckoned, taking Sera by her injured arm.

“I can’t leave him,” Sera said, staring at the gurney as it rolled away. “Is he going to be okay?” she queried.

“We’ll take good care of him,” the nurse replied. “Let me patch you up. Then you can visit him once Dr. Drake has had a chance to look at him.”

“Go with her, Sera,” I ordered, my voice menacingly low. I knew Sera didn’t heal as quickly as the rest of us, and that gash on her arm was deep. She needed medical care.

Her lips pinched as she stared off in Montgomery’s direction before nodding.

“How are they?”

I spun on my heels with wide eyes. Reese took a step back, her eyes widening.

“I told you to stay in the damn truck.”

“I just wanted to—”

She cut off when I scooped her up and tossed her ass over my shoulder. With my free arm, I pushed through the door of Drake’s clinic.

“Chael, what are you doing?” she bellowed.

I looked around and saw Chance parked next to my truck.

“Bring my truck back home in a few hours,”I told him telepathically and tossed him the keys to my truck.“And see to it that no one dares to enter my home for at least the next twenty-four hours.”

I growled when Reese tried to squirm out of my hold. I ignored her pleas to put her down and avoided eye contact with the rest of my pack. There was only one goal on my mind right then. And that was to teach my mate not to try some bullshit, as she had just done.

“What is the matter with you?” she demanded after I plopped her on the bed after barricading us in the bedroom. “I have just been through a very traumatic event. You would think…” She trailed off as I got directly in her face, leaning over the bed.

I could feel my eyes glowing. “A traumatic event you never should’ve gotten your ass into in the first place.”

She didn’t even look guilty as she glowered at me. And that made my dick spring alive in my jeans.
