“Chael,” she called my name again, but I was too entangled in desire to hear the alarm in her voice. She wrapped her hand around my wrist and pulled back. “We’re not alone.”
I peered at Henry over her shoulder, who remained on the porch watching us. He hadn’t moved, but Reese wasn’t talking about him. When I lifted my gaze to the back door, I found my youngest brother standing in the doorway.
Christophe quickly ducked his head. “Sorry, Chael.”
My hand tightened into a fist when Reese stepped out of my hold to face Christophe. Another damn interruption. My brother’s eyes landed on Reese and he pushed the glasses he wore up the brim of his nose before looking away.
“We’re busy,” I told my brother with a frown.
“You must be Christophe,” Reese said, going up to him with her arm outstretched.
Glaring at Christophe, I dropped my hands, recognizing that our private moment was yet again interrupted. My brother glanced over at me, and I begrudgingly gave him a nod. He reached out to shake Reese’s hand.
“Nice to finally meet you,” she added.
“Yes,” Christophe answered. “Finally. I apologize for the interruption.”
Reese waved him off. “It was nothing.”
I narrowed my eyes. It sure as hell wasn’tnothing. My damn dick was as hard as concrete, and I was seconds away from telling everyone in my pack to get the hell out of our house. I wanted to hear my mate yell my name without anyone else around.
“Brother.” I stepped forward behind Reese, laying my hands on her hips.
She stiffened at first and peered up at me but didn’t say anything. Obviously, my mate needed to get used to my touching her freely because I didn’t plan to let go anytime soon.
“I’ve found some information on the doctor you wanted me to look into,” Christophe informed me.
“Is he talking about Dr. Pines?” Reese asked animatedly, looking up at me. “Is that what you’re working on?” She directed that question at Christophe.
“Yes, Alpha Queen.”
“Please call me Reese. I’m not…” She trailed off when I tightened my hands on her waist. “Just Reese is fine.”
Christophe nodded.
I bit my tongue to hold back my anger. He shouldn’t have mentioned shit about that doctor in front of Reese. She was already anxious to find out what was happening with that case. I’d tried to bide my time until I had more information to give her, but between our search for Montgomery and tracking down Dr. Pines’s connections and keeping under the radar of the Alliance, it all kept me a little preoccupied.
“I have the information on my computer that you wanted to look at,” my brother added.
“Can I see it too?” Reese queried, stepping forward out of my hold.
I dropped my hands to my sides, hating to let her go.
“We’ll go look at your computer,” I said, conceding that Reese had a right to know about this matter that she so obviously cared deeply about.
CHAPTER16
Reese
“We’ll be back, buddy,” I told Henry, stroking his head before standing. “Ms. Elsie will stay with you so you won’t be lonely,” I promised him.
I knew Christophe lived on the edge of town, so if we were going to his house, I didn’t want Henry walking that far. Yes, he was healing quickly, but I didn’t want to chance a setback.
I followed Christophe back inside and could feel Chael’s presence behind me. I felt flushed and out of it from that kiss. His kiss and every touch felt like it took me a bit further from my former self and into this new world I still didn’t understand.
“Ms. Elsie, can you stay with Henry?” I asked when we entered the kitchen to find her and a few other shifters cleaning up the remnants of our dinner.
“Of course. Christophe, you didn’t eat with us,” Ms. Elsie said with her hand on her hip. Her voice held a hint of accusation my nana’s tone would have whenever I skipped dinner.
