She sat up straight. “Have you found out anything more about the wolves that attacked me? And what about Creekview? I haven’t been able to contact the reporter I spoke with and haven’t heard anything about the investigation.” She wrung her hands in her lap. I hated the worry in her voice. Or was it anxiousness for her to leave? Reese told me she planned to remain with me until Henry got better but I refused to accept that.

“We’re still tracking down the wolves that attacked you,” I semi-lied. I didn’t need to tell her that I sent all three to their graves. My betas verified that the wolves were kicked out of the Southeast pack. I spoke with their alpha, who confirmed it and gave me their names.

“Christophe is researching their travels to find out who they had come in contact with,” I told her.

“He doesn’t come to group dinners or meals,” she said about my youngest brother.

I shook my head. “He’s an introvert. Prefers computers over people.” I shrugged. “You’ll meet him soon.”

She nodded and looked out into the distance again.

I studied her profile but forced my hands to remain there, though I wanted nothing more than to pull her into my lap. “You have more questions.”

She gave me a half smile. “I was just thinking, I don’t know what you look like.”

I squinted.

“In your… you know.”

“My wolf,” I said, finally getting what she hinted at.

“Yeah. I mean, I’ve seen some of the others, even Chance. But that night, it was dark, and you were there one second and gone the next, fighting those other wolves.”

“You’re curious.” I nodded.

I stood and pulled my shirt over my head before tossing it on the ground next to my feet.

“What are you doing?” she asked, sitting up with wide eyes.

“Showing you my wolf.” I unbuckled the belt around my waist and undid the clasp of my jeans.

“Chael.”

I stopped right before pulling my jeans over my hips. Reese stared at me with wide eyes before glancing over her shoulder. “What if someone sees you?” she whispered. “Do you have to get naked?”

“I don’t have to, but I would tear through my clothing if I didn’t.” I moved closer and leaned down to kiss the tip of her nose. “We’ve all seen each other naked since we were pups, learning how to shift.”

“You’ll get used to it,” I assured before pulling off the rest of my clothing, including my work boots.

Reese’s eyes looked everywhere except at the lower half of my body. If she hadn’t been avoiding my cock she would’ve noticed it was semierect and pointing in her direction. Nevertheless, I got hold of my senses and summoned my wolf forward, permitting him to take over.

My muscles rippled and bulged as they transformed from human to wolf. All of my senses sharpened to their full abilities. Even my protective sense, in the presence of my mate, heightened as I landed on all four paws. Reese was safe in my home, my commune, among my pack, but my wolf still swept his gaze over our surroundings, scanning them.

“Wow,” she whispered.

My wolf purred as we turned to face her. Her mouth was open, nostrils flared, and chest slowly rising and falling as she stared at me in this form.

I approached her, moving one paw at a time so as to not frighten her. I could see from the look in her eyes that she was skittish around wolves, even me. My wolf whimpered, thinking that he scared her.

“You’re huge.” She laughed, and the sound jolted through me like a lost melody that we’d waited to hear for so long.

I couldn’t stop my wolf when he approached and ran his tongue up the length of her cheek. Reese laughed louder, encouraging him. He moved closer to her mouth, and she pulled back, trapping our face between her hands.

“Whoa there, bud. No mouth kisses,” she warned. “Not even Henry gets those privileges.”

At that, Henry lifted his head and whined.

“You have to be in your human form to do that,” she added.
