I lifted him and rubbed his back. “No, son. You did the right thing. Your mama wanted to save you.” I had to stop talking because I choked up.
I knew Savannah would put Aiden’s life before her own, as I would have. If Reyes kidnapped them both, he had no intention of leaving either one of them alive. She’d acted on her motherly instincts.
“We’re going to get her back,” I told him, because it was what we both needed to hear.
When Aiden’s body stopped shuddering as much, I lowered him to his feet. I looked up to see Micah flanked by two of his guys. All three wore grim expressions.
“There’s no trace of them around here. We found tire tracks out the back way. It looks like he took her east.” Micah pointed.
“I have Bass already working on the bank’s security system.”
I clenched my jaw. While I loved Micah and knew he would move heaven and Earth to help bring Savannah home, I needed someone a little more savage for this job.
“We need to get back to the office,” Micah said.
“Take Aiden with you,” I ordered. “Don’t let him out of your sight.”
Micah paused, giving me a curious look. “Where are you going?”
I didn’t answer him. Instead, I stooped low to get eye level with Aiden.
I cupped his face, my heart cracking at the tears and fear in his eyes. He tried to put on a brave face, holding the tears back.
“I’m going to find your mama and bring her back to us.” I clenched my teeth, hoping that I wasn’t lying to him. “I need you to go with Uncle Micah, okay?”
“Where are you going? Maybe I can help.” A tear slipped down his cheek.
After wiping it away with my thumb, I kissed his forehead. “You’ve already helped. You're safe, and I know your mom will be relieved when I let her know you’re okay.”
I stood and pushed Aiden into Micah’s arms when he wouldn’t budge. I looked into my brother's eyes.
“I’m going to visit our father. Let him know I’m on the way.”
He nodded, and I spun on my heels and hopped back on my bike.
Micah was a hell of a PI, but he started his career in law enforcement. He approached everything through the lens of the law.
Though he often bent the law here and there when obtaining information, he rarely went off the rails. I needed someone who wouldn’t ask questions or try to hold me back when helping me with this.
In less than thirty minutes, I pulled into my father’s driveway and hopped off my bike. I raced up to his doorway and pounded on the door. I knew that, by the time I arrived, Micah would’ve called and told Joel what had happened.
While my father focused now on his ranching business, he had spent years working as a henchman of sorts, for his father’s company, Townsend Industries. He was the illegitimate son that no one new about, which allowed him to engage in all sort of criminal activity to benefit the father and the company that refused to acknowledge him publicly.
Though, he walked away from that lifestyle, years ago, he still had all sorts of connections to it. I would need those to get my wife back.
Joel yanked open the door.
“I need you to find this motherfucker. And then I need some alone time with him.” I paused, looking my father square in the eye. “Not a soul can know about this, either.”
A muscle in his jaw ticked, and he nodded. “Your brother already sent me everything he had. I placed a few calls,” Joel said, his voice stern.
I nodded. “Let’s go.”
CHAPTER30
Ace
It didn’t take much after that, and we found out where Vincent Reyes had been staying for the past few days. It was a hotel on the outskirts of Harlington. He was listed under an alias.
