Cynthia Walsh indeed owned her agency, and she’d recently started expanding into luxury services. While I found all of that out in my research, I’d failed to put two and two together.
The sincerity in Kelvin’s voice, the picture of Marjorie on his phone, and the smile on his face as he spoke about her led me to one logical conclusion.
“You love her.”
“Man,” he slowly shook his head, “sometimes I think what I feel for her is deeper than love. Is that possible? Maybe not. But it’s the deepest form of love I’ve felt for anyone before, I’ll put it like that. It’s like you.”
I jerked my head back. “What?”
He looked over his shoulder and jutted his head. “You’ve been staring at him the entire time we’ve been talking.” He turned back at me. “That’s how I am with MJ. I can’t keep my eyes off her when she’s in the same room. Hell, I snuck out here to be alone to look at her damn picture.”
He held up the hand holding his phone.
It took me a minute to process his words. He’d compared what he felt for Marjorie to Don and me. I didn’t know how or what to respond to that.
After a while, Kelvin scrubbed a hand down the side of his face. “I should take my ass home. MJ says I talk too much when I drink.” He shook the empty glass as proof. “You have a good night.”
“You too,” I returned, absent-mindedly.
I waited for him to leave before hitting stop on my recorder.
“Did you get what you needed?” Don asked as he approached.
With tears in my eyes, I looked up at him.
“Hey, did he say something I need to fuck him up over?” He ran a thumb under my eye, catching a tear. The look on his face was angry and gentle at the same time.
“No.” I laughed. “I think there must be some dander or dust in here. Allergies.”
“Oh,” he said, but the wrinkle in his forehead said he was still concerned. “Let’s get out of here. We’re doing a bonfire.”
“Who?”
“Rescue Four. It’s a tradition after these things. And we’re celebrating the birth of baby Ara.”
“That’s so sweet,” I gushed.
Eric and Angela had their baby girl two weeks earlier and named her Ara. It was a Korean name that meantbeautiful,as a nod to Eric’s Korean heritage.
“I’m in. I just need to send a quick text to my client.”
I had the urge to send Marjorie the recording of the conversation between Kelvin and me. I often let clients listen to my recordings for proof of infidelity, but this time, I wanted Marjorie to hear how Kelvin truly felt about her, from his mouth, when she wasn’t in the room.
I couldn’t send the entire conversation, though. It would ruin his surprise.
Doing the next best thing, I sent her a quick text. Short and sweet.
Jocelyn:Kelvin truly loves you. I don’t believe he’s cheating on you.
I wrappedmy arm around Don’s wrist as we strolled out of the museum. I kept thinking about what Kelvin had picked up on about my feelings for Don. Even a practical stranger could see what I still couldn’t admit out loud.
Chapter 30
Don
Weeks after the gala,I found myself awakening to the scent of coconuts—the same lotion I’d rubbed into Jocelyn’s silky skin the night before. Jocelyn and I had stayed up late playing video games, bullshitting, and eventually showering together. I’d applied lotion all over her body before making her scream my name.
Lying on my side, I squeezed her tighter from behind as she lay naked with her ass tucked right against my cock. I grabbed a condom from the nightstand and quickly sheathed myself before rolling back over.
