“Turn around, Syd. I need to see something.” He lifted his eyebrows.

“Luke, get serious.”

“I’m serious as a heart attack, doll.”

“What’d I tell you about those pet names?”

“Can’t remember,” he said, shrugging as he sat up from the table.

Jeremy moved away, leaving Luke and me alone.

“Get serious. It’s time to focus.”

“I’ve been focused.”

I was stopped from responding when the door pushed open and one of the arenas hired showgirls or whatever her job was entered with one of those edible arrangement things.

“A gift from the hosts of the fight,” she crooned, not bothering to hide the fact that she was deeply ogling Luke.

Suddenly, I became very aware of the fact that he was only dressed in his spandex fighting shorts. All his glorious muscles and tattoos were on display for this wench to see. I scowled deeply at her.

Behind me, I heard Luke snort. “Quit staring, sweetheart, before my trainer here forgets I’m the one who’s supposed to be fighting and drags your ass into the cage. Trust me, you don’t want to be on the other end of that fight,” he warned her.

The chick then turned scornful eyes on me. Lucky for her, she didn’t say anything as she placed the arrangement down on the center of the table and exited without another word.

Tramp.

I turned back to Luke. “Did you ever sleep with her?”

He shrugged, nonchalantly. “I’d have to see her from the backside to remember.”

I shook my head and rolled my eyes.

No sooner than that thought crossed my mind, he pulled me into him again, dipping his face to my ear.

“No worries, Syd. As soon as this fight is over it’s you I’m taking home. I might even let you give me a rub down.”

I pushed out a harsh breath. “Rub downs are your PT’s job. But if you’re lucky, I might let you touch my butt later.”

He lifted his eyebrows. “Might?”

“I said what I said.”

A cocky grin covered his face.

“Enough of this, let’s go,” I said at the same time there was a knock on the door.

One of the arena’s staff, pushed the door open and nodded. “They’re ready for you.”

“It’s go time,” Luke said, hopping off the table.

“Okay, it’s time you both get out,” I said, clapping my hands and looked at both the PT and Lenny. “David, you ready?”

David nodded, carrying the towel and the robe over to Luke. I stood back as David assisted Luke in putting on the robe. Lenny and the PT exited and it was just the three of us. Luke’s cutman for the fight was already waiting out by the cage. David exited ahead of us.

When it was Luke and I left in the room, I palmed his face with both of my hands.

“Remember, this is an exhibition. Only three rounds. Your job is to size Luca up, assess his weaknesses, learn what you can and end this shit as quickly as possible. Follow our training plan, okay? No fuck ups and don’t try to get cute.”
