Pausing, I looked her over with a wrinkle in my brow. “For what?”
“To set up before you get here so we don’t waste unnecessary time. That fight with Rodriguez is in six months.”
“I haven’t agreed to that fight,” I reminded her as I entered the gym, leaving the door to close behind me as I always did. If Syd hadn’t been hot on my heels it would’ve slammed in her face.
Moving around me, she stopped directly in front of me. “I’ve been watching video on him. You’re doing the fight.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“It’s a great opportunity, worth a lot of money, and most importantly, you want the title. This is a title fight.”
“How the hell do you know what I want?”
She didn’t respond. Instead, she folded her arms over her chest, observing me with a half smile on those fucking full lips of hers, and that damn beauty mark. After thinking about it, longer than I should’ve, I realized that it wasn’t one of those makeup beauty marks either. It was real.
If I were to give her a nickname as I did with most women, it would’ve been lips. Or maybe, eyes. I did my best every time I came face to face with her not to stare into them for too long. Better yet, her nickname would be Medusa.
“What’d you have for breakfast this morning?” she suddenly asked, jolting me back to the moment.
I held up the cup with my pre-workout in it. “This is my breakfast, darlin’.”
She frowned.
“What did I tell you about those damn pet names?” Her eyes narrowed as she glared at me.
Medusa. Definitely Medusa.
“I wouldn’t hold your breath.”
Stunned, I spun on my heels to face the doorway.
“Aw hell,” I cursed at the new intruder. “I need to start locking that fucking door behind me.”
“Not before you give me a key,” Syd commented. “And who’s this?” She questioned moving to my side, staring at the man in front of us.
“Not sure that’s any of your business. Who are you?”
“Syd. His new trainer.” She grinned and stuck out her hand to shake.
Pit lifted his eyebrows in surprise as he let his eyes roam over to meet mine. A smirk played at his lips.
“Oh, this should be interesting. Name’s Pit, but I’m not touching you. My woman gets one whiff of you on me and she’ll cut us both. Not in the mood for that shit today, but I hope like hell you know what you’re getting yourself into with this one.”
Syd turned to me. “I hope so, too.”
I cut my attention from her back to Pit without responding. “The hell are you doing here?”
“What the fuck did you think was going to happen? Your number hasn’t changed and you’re not dead, so here the fuck I am.”
I grunted and then motioned with my head for Pit to follow me. I took exactly three steps before stopping abruptly and turning to look over my shoulder. “You, don’t follow. Keep your ass right there.”
Syd shrugged. “I need to set up out here anyway. Pit, I’m sure whatever you need to discuss with my fighter is important, but I need you to make it quick. We’ve got training to do.”
Pit frowned before turning back to me. He folded his arms across his chest and grumbled to himself. “His trainer, not mine. Let’s dial that down.”
I started for my office, followed by Pit, shutting the door behind me once he entered. I took a seat in my chair, pushing to lean back with my hands crossed behind my head, staring at him.
“Thanks for the offer, but I’ll stand.”
