“Whoa!” I blurt out, surprised when my woman suddenly pushes me down on the couch. We’re in my place, the lights down low, after having just finished a delicious Thai dinner.

My hands go to Janine’s waist as she climbs on top of me, straddling my legs.

“You’re lucky I happen to appreciate this position.”

Her eyebrows wiggle and her lips widen with mischievousness. “You’re really handsome, you know that?” Her voice is sultry.

My hands tighten around her hips as I frown. “Just handsome?”

“And sexy as fuck.”

“That’s more like it. Come here.”

“No, wait!” She presses her hand against my chest as she pushes back to stand in front of me. “I wanted to show you something.”

I lift an eyebrow.

“I thought you wanted to see what color panties I bought on my shopping spree.”

“There’s more?” So far she’d shown me at least four new pairs of panties she’d bought. They had ended up on my bedroom floor, or dresser, or kitchen countertop. I recall one ended upinsideof the refrigerator. That was a great night.

“Let me see.”

“Wait! Patience … learn to practice it, Emanuel,” she protests, pushing my hands out of the way as I go to reach for her again.

“I don’t have much patience when it comes to you, butterfly.”

I watch as her eyelids flutter and that little vein at the side of her neck quickens. She fucking loves that nickname.

“Don’t you want to know what has me in such a good mood?”

I frown. “You mean it isn’t the fact that I’m about to make you scream my name so loudly you’ll lose your voice?”

“That too … but there’s more.”

I rise from the couch and move closer to her, slowly. “You better make it quick.” I follow her all of the way to the far end of my living room, trapping her body in with my arms against the wall directly next to the door.

“I had a great day at work. I showed Digita the social media campaign I’d come up with and they loved it!” Her excitement is contagious.

“That’s great, babe,” I say before dropping a kiss to the side of her neck.

She shivers. “It’s because of you. I took your advice and said screw the whole being timid thing.” She wraps her arms around my neck. “I saw where Zeke was being weak in the campaign and proposed my idea to our clients and they ate it up.”

Those golden eyes of hers sparkle with pride.

I’m certain the same level of pride echoes in my reflection. “You are amazing.”

“Thank you for pushing me to believe in myself. For a while there I really believed I’d gotten a job I hadn’t earned. It made me doubt every decision I made at work.”

I snort. “I know that feeling.”

“Do you? How? You’re so confident,” she declares.

“I put on a good show.”

Grinning, she shakes her head. “No you don’t. It’s who you are. How could you doubt yourself?”

My hands moves to her waist and I stare her in the eyes. I drop a kiss to her lightly glossed lips simply because they’re there and I can’t resist.
