“I got it,” he says impatiently, pushing Larry away.

Hearing his voice is when it clicks into place.

But he moves too quickly, using a crutch as he pushes through the door that’s being held open for him.

I hurry out of the room as well to catch up with him.

“Corey!” I call out.

His back stiffens and he stills.

The guys from the group move past us in the hallway, nodding their heads in acknowledgement.

Corey doesn’t turn to face me.

“Corey,” I say again, lower this time since I’m much closer.

“What the fuck do you want?” he growls, only looking at me over his shoulder.

I get that he’s not going to turn around so I move around to his front.

He’s damn near snarling at me. Can’t say that I wouldn’t be as pissed if I were in his position.

“This your first time here?”

“What the hell is it to you?”

I’m not taken aback by his tone.

“It’s a lot to me.”

“Why, so you can run back to the Rescue and tell everyone how fucked up I still am?” He tries to move around me but I step in his way.

“I just might do that.”

“Get the hell out of my way.”

“I will … when I’m good and goddamn ready.”

He tries to step to his right and nearly crumbles to the ground.

I help stop his fall, but once he’s uprighted again he pushes away from me.

“Don’t touch me. I got it!” he yells.

I hold my hands up, taking a half a step backwards, giving him some space. “You know you’re not the only one fucked up over what happened to you.”

“How the hell would you know? Oh yeah, youaremy replacement.”

“I am.” I nod.

His face grows angrier as his dark eyebrows narrow.

I move closer. “It’s not me you’re pissed at.”

“You sure about that?”

“I am. I get it. You—”
