“I can’t exactly say that, but—”
“You believe he’s stealing from his clients,” he said again.
“Yes.”
“And you’re involving yourself in this why?” His tone was hard, serious.
“Because it’s my responsibility as a professional in this field. There are too many financial planners and advisors who are taking their clients for a walk. It’s why I left the company I used to work for.”
“I get all of that, and trust me when I say I find your passion for it sexy as fuck. But why the hell areyouinvestigating this guy? Aren’t there agencies or prosecutors who should be doing this?”
I sighed. “I’m notinvestigatingreally, just doing a little background research. Brenda has a friend at the SEC. I’m planning on calling Bren in the morning to talk with her about it. After that, it’ll be out of my hands.”
I tightened my fingers around Tyler’s as they were still intertwined.
“You haven’t gone to see him, have you? This financial advisor?”
“What?”
“You said you weren’t investigating him. That means you’ve just been doing a little internet research, right? You haven’t made any appointments with him?”
I swallowed and shook my head. “No,” I lied.
His jaw ticked.
I leaned down, making a trail of kisses down his strong jawline.
“I haven’t spent anything I’ve earned in the NFL.”
I pulled back to stare down at him. “Really?”
He nodded. “Not a dime.”
“Why?” It was a silly question. Tyler was born into a family that guaranteed a lifetime of never having to worry about money but I still found it interesting that he hadn’t spent his NFL earnings.
“I invest it. To have something that I earned to pass down to my children and my wife, should I die first. They’ll have the inheritance that comes with my last name, of course. But I wanted to give them something earned from my own blood, sweat, and hard work.”
“Even what you earn from endorsements?” Tyler’s NFL salary was already in the seven figures per year but that was a pittance of what he made from his various endorsements.
“Most of that is invested too.”
“You’ve thought about having kids?”
He nodded. “Since earning my first paycheck. And a wife.”
I was speechless. Didn’t know what to say. Tyler was so different from my first impression of him. Beneath the seemingly reckless, don’t give a shit exterior was a grown ass man who knew how to handle his business.
“You want to have children?”
My heart leapt into my throat. I went to answer but no words came out. I slowly nodded, unable speak to just how much I wanted to be a mother. I didn’t have to when Tyler moved quickly, flipping us, so that I was on my back and he covered my body.
He moved his hand to something in the back pocket of his jeans. Out of my peripheral I saw something that looked like two tickets.
“What’s that?”
“Tickets to the box seats of next week’s home game. I got two in case you wanted to bring Resha or your mother. I can get another one if they both want to come.”
My heart melted.
