“We checked. We checked the room before he entered. Nobody was in there.”
“So she got in while he was asleep? That’s fucking worse!”
Aaron was smaller than both of the men in stature but they both flinched at the tone of his voice.
“We think she was given a key by someone at the hotel. It’s what these groupie types do. They finesse male managers for information on when ballers are coming into town.”
“Is that supposed to make us feel any better?” Brutus, our head of security, finally asked. At six foot six, he was the biggest guy in the room and the direct supervisor of my two security guards.
“She wasn’t able to steal anything. We checked and made sure. She didn’t plant a bug or anything. We went over your phone and tablet with a fine tooth comb.”
“But she was just able to take and upload a bunch of pictures of me asleep in my fucking hotel bed, making it appear as if I’d just fucked her.” My voice was rigid with anger. I refrained from telling them how this bitch had just messed up the most important thing in my life.
“We need to discuss this,” Brutus stated, standing from his chair.
“See that you handle these two,” Aaron advised, standing as well. “I’ve got two newborns at home. I don’t need to be here cleaning up after incompetence,” he added. Patience had given birth to the two newest editions to our ever-growing family, a month and a half prior.
I eyed both Tone and Donovan as they followed behind Brutus on the way out.
I shook my head. “Fucking imbeciles.” I turned to see Aaron staring at me, peculiarly. “What?”
He lifted an eyebrow. “I thought you’d be laughing this shit off.”
My jaw tightened.
“That’s what you usually do when shit like this happens.”
“Yeah, well, maybe things have changed,” I spat back, surprising Aaron. “I’ve got practice.”
“Kyle’s excited for Sunday’s game,” he said to my retreating back.
Wish I was as excited as he was. “I’ll see you all there.”
“I won’t be there. Just the children with Mother and Father. I won’t leave my wife home that long with two screaming newborns.”
I nodded, but deep down I knew it’s because Aaron couldn’t bear to be separated from his newest editions or his wife for the entire length of a football game. He was enamored with his family. Something he only let those who were closest to him see. My heart squeezed in my chest. For the first time ever in my life, I was envious of my second eldest brother … hell, all three of my older brothers. They knew where they stood with the women they loved. Me, on the other hand …
“You need to make an appearance at the Tidas event.”
I waited until the elevator doors that we’d just entered closed before turning to him. “What?”
“The Tidas Gala it’s in a few weeks. I can’t attend. Josh’s wedding is the following day, so he can’t. Carter will refuse, so that leaves you. Plus, you’ll already be in town for the game with the Dolphins.”
“You give me orders on my fucking schedule now?”
Aaron scowled, his usual face. “I’m asking, as a favor, if you could attend.”
Didn’t sound like much of a question.
“Yeah, whatever.” I turned from him as the elevator doors opened to the garage of Townsend Industries.
We parted ways as Aaron sauntered off to the awaiting town car, and I made my way to the electric blue Porsche Cayenne that’d I’d parked earlier.
“And try to get the stick out of your ass before you get there,” he said just before the driver shut the door behind him.
I snarled in his direction. “You’re one to fucking talk,” I mumbled. Truth was, I was acting more like Aaron these days, than he was. He was typically the scowling, demanding, move the fuck out of my way brother while I was known to be more laid back. But my jovial mood had disappeared the moment Destiny hung the phone up in my ear and had refused to answer any of my calls or text since then.
I ground my teeth as I slammed my door shut. For the first time in years, I didn’t actually feel like going to practice. But duty called, and as soon as Brutus was done talking with my security detail, he’d be getting a call from me regarding a more important matter. I needed all of the details I could get my hands on Destiny McDonald. If she thought she’d gotten rid of me, she was sadly mistaken.
