“Whatever,” I mumbled, shaking my head.

“You finally decided to take me up on my offer. Females like you always do.”

I frowned, pulling my head back. “What offe—” I stopped, remembering the words he’d tossed at me a few weeks prior about him letting me screw him. I let out a humorless laugh. “Yeah fucking right. Look, I said I’d make this quick, so I am. The other week you mentioned that you were getting some great returns from investments you made through a financial advisor you worked with. I just want to know their name. That’s it.”

He frowned, standing to his full height, looking down on me as if trying to figure out my angle. I would’ve gladly told him I didn’t have an angle, but I knew that would’ve fallen on deaf ears.

“I see what this is,” he stated, snapping his fingers as if he had me all figured out. “You’re salty at the money I’m making. I’m getting more than that little seven percent shit you was talking, over the long haul, and it’s eating you up.” He began chuckling. “Nah.” He shook his head and my shoulders sank. He had this all wrong.

“Leonard, I’m not trying to hustle you—”

“Because a bitch like you can’t,” he growled.

Instinctively, I took a step back. “That was unnecessary.”

“What’s unnecessary is females like yourself who try to eat off good men like me.”

I shook my head, not understanding where his anger was coming from but not really caring either. I just needed a name.

“Fine, Leonard, you can keep your financial advisor a secret. But you said your agent hooked you up with them. Can you at least tell me your agent’s name?” I figured with that information, I could make an appointment with his agent to gather information. If worst came to worst, I could do a little digging to find out Leonard’s agent.

A smile I didn’t like parted Leonard’s lips as he stroked his goatee. “You of all people should know him.”

I lifted an eyebrow, wondering why I would know his agent.

“Darryl Wright.”

My stomach plummeted. I bit the inside of my cheek. Of fucking course, Leonard’s agent would be my ex-husband.

“Yeah, I thought you’d know that name.” Leonard looked me up and down with a disgust I was certain I hadn’t earned.

I mentally shook off the surprise of learning my ex-husband was representing Leonard. “Thank you,” I spat out and stepped aside to let Leonard pass through the doors. I didn’t have anymore questions for him, none that he was willing to answer, at least.

I expelled a full breath only when I the door closed behind me. I’d heard that Darryl had become a sports agent once he retired from the league, the very season we’d gotten divorced. But that was it. After some time, I’d done my best not to make any inquiries into his life and I forbade anyone from telling me about him.

“Shit,” I cursed realizing I might just have to speak to my ex again. I took another deep breath before tossing my shoulders back, and refocusing on where I was. I didn’t need to make any decisions concerning Darryl right then. That night, I was just going out to have dinner with my mentor and friend, her husband, and the football team he coached.

And Tyler,my not-so-subconscious mind quickly added on.

Nothing and I mean nothing could’ve had me in a better mood than when I saw Destiny walk through the doors of Mar Belo ten minutes after we were seated. Not the fact that we’d just beaten the team that’d ended our playoff run the previous season. Not the fact that I’d passed for close to two hundred yards this game. And especially not the fact that our team had shown the best pre-season showing in over three years.

Nope.

None of that mattered when Destiny walked through the double doors of the restaurant wearing a pair of black leather pants, a sleeveless cream top, and a black and gold choker, highlighting her elegant neck. It was the choker that had my hands balling into fists under the table.

“Destiny,” Brenda, the coach’s wife, called out getting her attention.

“Here’s a seat.” I instantly elbowed Kelvin, urging him with my eyes and a head nod to move his ass to the chair across the table. Destiny was sitting next to me. I moved out of the way, noticing as she glanced around, checking to see if there was space for her to fit anywhere else.

“Sit,” I commanded.

Her eyes widened briefly before she pushed out a breath, conceding that there was no other space for her to plant her ass.

“Glad you made it,” Brenda greeted, pulling Destiny into a warm hug.
