“Anymore?” Ty chimed in, “You never did, big bro.”

Ty turned to me, eyes gleaming in delight. That look got under my skin. As a kid, Tyler was always the one who was up to something. The most mischievous out of the four of us. I guessed it was to be expected seeing as how he was the youngest and all. His antics on and off the football field proved he still hadn’t grown out of his mischievous ways.

“Anyway,” he stated, “I’m referring to the fact that all three of my older brothers have gone ahead and taken the big plunge.”

I tilted my head.

“Fallen in love. Gotten married. Started families. The whole shebang.”

I rolled my eyes. “Get the fuck outta here, Ty.”

“Hey now! Mother would not be happy with such language,” he chided.

“Fucking clown,” I grumbled under my breath, looking between Carter and Aaron.

Carter smirked and chuckled but then said, “He does have a point.”

“Thank you, Carter. You were always my favorite older brother,” Tyler added snidely.

Aaron grunted.

“Don’t sweat it, Aaron. You were in the running for the top two, top three spot.” Ty shrugged.

“He’s an ass but he’s got a point.”

I rocked back on my heels, not believing Aaron of all people would be agreeing with our younger brother.

“Don’t give me that look,” he added.

My gaze bounced between the three of my brothers. While Aaron’s expression remained serious, I could see the hint of laughter in his eyes, along with Carter and Tyler’s. The latter twos lips began twitching until they finally burst out laughing, obviously at the dismay written all over my face.

“Fuck both of you and you too!” I growled in Aaron’s direction. “Fucking in love. Not me. Not ever,” I retorted at their increased laughter. I had made that vow seven years ago and intended to keep to it. I cared for Kayla, sure. A great deal. And I wasn’t sure I could see my life without her in it anymore, but did that mean I wasin love? Maybe …

“Fuck off. I don’t have time for love and family and all that shit. I’ve got work to tend to.”

“And fighting?” Tyler questioned in between guffaws. “Forgot to mention that to her, huh?”

“That’s because he’s been spending less time at the gym and more time with someone else,” Carter added.

“You know what? Fuck all three of you. I need to speak with Father, anyway.” I ground my teeth as I brushed past the three of them and moved down the hall to my father’s study. He was in there and I spent the next ten minutes updating him on the situation with Townsend Real Estate.

“I have a feeling I’ll be hearing something very soon,” I finished telling him. It’d been a little over two weeks since I’d first contacted Damon. He’d gotten to me through text message, giving me little tidbits of information he’d heard from the feelers he’d put out. With the information I’d gotten from James earlier in the day, I knew Brutus would be able to find something soon. I needed to wrap this shit up. The mere thought of the scared look on Kayla’s face after the robbery had my fists twisting at my sides. In an instant I was ready to hit something. Hard.

Ordinarily, that feeling would’ve sent me to gym to get into the ring with the biggest motherfucker I could find. But when my father placed a firm hand on my shoulder and said, “Go home. Spend time with your woman,” I stared up at him and nodded. The very thought of taking Kayla home and holding her writhing body in my arms as we made love in my bed was enough to ease the tension that had coiled in me. Somewhat, at least. It wouldn’t fully be alleviated until the bastard behind all of this was caught.

But my father was right. Right then, I needed Kayla in my arms. So I took his advice. Within the next twenty minutes, the two of us were making our good-byes to my family.

“Ty is still a character, I see.” She gave out a little laugh in the car on the way home.

I grunted. “He’s a jackass. But his season starts in a few weeks. I’ll get you a season pass to the family’s private skybox.” I made a mental note to call my assistant in the morning to do just that.

“That’ll be fun,” she said as we pulled up to my driveway. She tossed me a smile but something was amiss in her eyes. She looked away before I could quite make out whether or not it was me or if there really was something off.

Either way, I needed to touch her. Cutting off my car’s engine, I climbed out and made it to the passenger side door in record time. I reached for Kay’s arm to help her out of the car, but as soon as she was upright, my lips met hers in a searing kiss. She moaned into my mouth instantly, and my dick grew harder than it ever had. There was no waiting this time. We were in my private driveway, which wasn’t visible to any neighbors. I’m not entirely sure that even in that moment I would’ve cared, either way. I slammed the door closed and pressed Kayla’s back to it.

“Ever since you put this fucking dress on, I’ve been waiting to take it off,” I groaned against her plump lips.

She sighed contentedly, running her hands up and down my sides.
