“I’d need her information. Like a resume, credentials—”
“I already emailed you her resume, cover letter, and references.”
I paused, staring down into those brown eyes. The hand that wasn’t tangled up in her hair reached down to cup her ass. “I could ask around for your friend, if you answer something for me.” I spun us around so her back was to the kitchen island.
“What’s that?”
“Why the hell were you looking at condos the other night?”
Her lips formed into a thin line. “I was looking for my own place.”
A muscle in my jaw ticked. “For what?” I pressed my body against hers.
“To live.”
“You live here.” I reached down and licked the outside of her ear.
“Y-yes but this is temporary … r-right?” she questioned.
I pulled back and stared down at her, my eyes dropping to her full lips. I captured her lips with my own, planting an unforgiving kiss on her mouth. The words to answer her question wouldn’t come, so I was left with action. My hands roamed all over her body, squeezing and massaging her ass before moving up to her breasts.
“Fuck!” I growled when my cell in my pocket began ringing. “Shit!” I cursed once I saw who the caller was. I turned to Kayla “I have to take this.”
Kay nodded, biting her kiss-swollen bottom lip
I suppressed the groan that welled up from my very core.
“You couldn’t have waited ten minutes to call me back?” I hissed into the phone as I moved from the kitchen down the stairs to my office. I shut the door behind me.
Damon’s deep chuckle moved through the line. “My mistake. Did I call while you were in the middle of something?”
“Asshole,” I grumbled. “Anyway, I’ll make this quick since you’re out of town and we both have shit to do.”
“What’s up?”
“I’ve got trouble at Townsend. My security’s looking into it but I thought you might’ve heard something or know someone who has.”
“I haven’t seen anything in the news, so that means you’ve worked hard to keep it hush, hush. What’s going on?”
I gave Damon the rundown on the trouble that’d been happening at Townsend Real Estate, including the robberies, the previous week.
“Shit.”
“Tell me about it. But it doesn’t make any fucking sense. Robbers looking for cash in a real estate development and a safe in an empty unit? That’s the last place there’d be any cash lying around.”
“Right,” he agreed. “So, you want to know if any of my, ahem, associateshave heard anything.”
“Yes,” I answered directly. Damon was a successful, self-made real estate mogul who’d started out on the not so legal side of this business. And he still had those connections.
“I’ll put some feelers out around town as soon as I hang up with you. I should hear something within the next few days.”
“I appreciate it.”
“No problem at all. After all you’ve done for me, this is just a small token of my appreciation. I gotta go. Catch you when I get back.”
“Yeah, make sure you work on the left jab beforehand.”
Another chuckle. “No doubt.”
