I pull him into my arms. “Never again.”
Miss Lillian points at the phone in my hand. “Would that forum have anything on something like this?”
I shrug. “Wouldn't hurt to try.”
I log in and do a couple of quick searches, not finding anything. I switch things up and look through the werewolf wiki while Remy puts himself in my embrace, looking on with me. Pointing a tapered finger to the screen, he says, “Try this one.”
Vampire and Lycan Lovers.
“I'm not a werewolf,” I growl. “It's not the same.”
“Love, can you please just read the article? Even if it doesn't quite apply, all canid shifters are related.”
I snarl. “Don't remind me.”
Remy pointedly looks at the screen, and, fine, I tap the link for the article, waiting for it to come up. It’s an Aunt Agony kind of post.
Dear Momma Wolf—
I’m a vampire, and I’m in love with a werewolf. His family has a spotty history of fated mates, so we were both surprised when he imprinted on me. I love him deeply, but not in the same way that he's describing. Am I going to hurt him if I don't feel the same way? How can it work if he’s fated for me and I'm not fated for him?
Yours, One Very Confused Vamp.
Dear Confused Vamp,
Congratulations on finding someone to love! In a world like ours, the ability to find any love at all is a precious thing. And to answer your question, yes, it is quite possible for him to imprint on you without you imprinting in return. That doesn’t impact your ability to love one another, and it doesn’t mean you love him less. It simply means that you are a species that doesn’t have a mechanism for a fated mate connection.
Quick note for my vampire readers: People don't like to talk about this, but not all vampires originated from humans or people who were only human. So, for those of you who have shifter or were DNA, fating is completely possible and could very well change your feeding habits.
I wish you the best of luck!
Love, Momma Wolf
I take the phone and re-read the article, then click on the link Momma Wolf provided.
I look at Remy, relieved and sad. “So, I didn't do this to you? I didn’t just force you to be fated?”
Remy shakes his head. “No, and I’m sorry I even said that.”
Miss Lillian reads through the letter again, her expression thoughtful. “Vampires eat all kinds of blood all the time. They have preferences for taste, vintage, diet, but all red blood works well for them. Him having your blood might make him feel more amorous, but it would not force him to mate with you against his wishes.”
I look up, and Remy's eyes are sparkling with amusement.
“What’s so funny? I feel terrible. You’re stuck with me.”
He snorts inelegantly. “Yes, well. You appear to be just as stuck with me.”
“Why you laughin’? I thought you wanted tomake this go away. I don’t think it’s gonna be easy or even possible.”
“My parents talk endlessly about pure human blood, claiming that we've not even had a single mark in our family tree on either side. That I am the purest of the pureblood line, and my desire to fuck with werewolves is ruining our family legacy.”
“I'm sorry. That must be awful,” I said, irked that he mentioned weres and not shifters.
“Did you hear what she said? If I’m fated, it’s because their elitist pureblood claims are a bunch of bullshit.”
“So you’re really not mad at me, cher? Even if I’m not one of your weres?”
Remy looks over at Miss Lillian and blushes, then stands in front of me, his pretty eyes meeting mine, determination in the set of his jaw. “No, dear. I’m not mad at you and I could give a damn that you’re a shifter instead of a were. I prefer always to be at choice, but this is beyond our control. It’s not that I was so weak or that your blood was so strong. It is simply the goddess saying that you are my perfect mate. And really, who are we to question her infinite wisdom?”
