Haisley’s starting to look like she’s regretting our date. I know I am.

“Tell me…Paisley, is it? What are your thoughts on children?”

She startles at the question. “Haisley. And I don’t think that’s…important right now.”

“But surely y’all’ve discussed your marriage goals, though, right? I mean, you’ll want to be aligned on that.”

“Uh…this is the first date…”

I scrub my hand over my face and wonder if I’m really what’s making DeShaun so sad. “Please ignore my brother. He thinks he’s being funny.”

Anders winks and a shy smile steals across her face as she responds. “Oh, okay. I mean…I’m not opposed to any of those things, but we literally just met.”

Seriously? How is he out-charming me on my own date?

Just then Omar slides into the booth next to Anders, squishing me against the window.

“Sorry, I’ve been trying to catch up with him for three blocks. Your brother is fast when he’s on a mission to create chaos.”

Anders looks fake-affronted then leans in for a kiss with Omar. Haisley’s eyes look like they’re about to pop out of her head. Turning to me, she says, “You’re gay?”

I’m not a fan of how she asks that question. “No, I’m not gay.”

“Bullshit. Your brother is gay, and y’all are identical twins. That means you’re gay too.”

Omar pulls away from Anders, cocking an unfriendly brow at Haisley.

I take over the conversation, trying to steer it somewhere close to the road. “Only about two-thirds of identical twins share sexuality, about a third are discordant.”

“So y’all are…discordant?” she asks, looking over at Anders and Omar with a small sneer.

“Actually, no. We’re both bisexual,” I say simply, waiting for her response.

I’m disappointed, but not.

She nearly chokes on her tongue. “Wait—you’rebisexual? You’ve had sex withmen?”

Anders’ grin is pure evil and, for once, I’m here for it. He says, “Oh, honey. It’s so much easier to have sex with men. If he’s anything like me, his guy-to-gal ratio is like four to one.”

I’ll give my brother this, he clocked her problematic ass way faster than I did.

I scratch my chin, deciding to play along. “For me it’s more like two to one. Wait, are you vers too?” I ask, knowing the answer.

“For sure. Why would I ever limit myself?”

“Guess that makes three of us,” Omar says, his rich voice edged with laughter.

“What does vers mean?” Haisley asks, looking horrified.

I paste a big smile on my face. “It means we like to pitchandcatch.”

“Oh,gross, with each other?” She gestures between Anders and me.

The fuck?

“What the fuck are you talking about, lady?” Anders asks, his affable nature finally worn down. “This isn’t a taboo book party. Why would you ever ask somebody that in real life?”

“I’m not the one talking about p-pitching and catching,” she stutters, standing up. “This date is over.”
