I gave myself a shake. “You’re being serious right now?”
“Deadly serious,” Rhett replied. “But I don’t want to crash y’all’s date. If I’m imposing at all, just tell me to fuck off.”
I glanced at Cole again. His cheeks were red, but there was something new behind his eyes.
Consideration.
He wasthinkingabout it!
The images returned to my mind, vivid and erotic…
“I can’t help but notice neither of you have said no,” Rhett said.
There was a lump in my throat. I cleared it, then asked Cole, “I’m down for anything, but I don’t want to ruin our date.”
Cole was very still. I wished I could read his mind, to know what was going on behind his stoic eyes.
“It wouldn’t ruin our date,” he said carefully. “Rhett’s right. We’ve always wanted to try that again.”
Oh myGod.
Was this seriously being suggested right here, outside my apartment?
The door to the building opened, and one of my neighbors walked out. “Oh, hi Mrs. Willard!” I said.
“Hello, June.” The older woman frowned and looked at both men, then put her hand into her purse, where she kept her pepper spray. “Is everything all right here?”
“Everything’s great! Thanks for asking.” I flashed her a smile.
She looked at us a few more seconds, then walked toward her car.
“Let’s talk about this upstairs,” I said. “I’m not agreeing to anything. Yet.”
“Fair enough,” Cole said.
We went inside and pressed the button for the elevator. While waiting for it, I said, “You two have… uh…”
“Yep!” Rhett said. “And it was fuckinghot.”
I looked to Cole for confirmation. He nodded in agreement.
The elevator arrived, and the doors closed. I was keenly aware of just how close the three of us were in the confined space. I could smell each of their colognes individually. They mixed together into something new and exotic.
“Did y’all kiss?” Rhett suddenly asked. “On the date. If it’s none of my business, feel free to say so.”
“No,” I said.
“No, it’s none of my business? Or no, you haven’t kissed yet?”
“No, we haven’t kissed yet,” I confirmed.
Rhett turned to Cole and grinned. “She’s a good kisser.”
And then he turned back to me, pressed me up against the wall of the elevator, and kissed mehard. As his lips churned with mine, I could feel just how much he wanted me. Like he’d been thinking about this all night.
I opened my eyes for a moment and saw Cole watching us. It was strange having himright therewhile I kissed another man.
But the look in his eyes wasn’t jealousy. It was hunger.
