At the doorway to the bathroom, I shook my head. "You are something else."

She stretched and pulled the sheet over her body as she nodded "I know."

I flushed the condom and got into the shower, thinking I could get used to having Gina around all the time. If anybody asked me, I didn't think I had a type of woman but I had to be honest with myself about the woman in my bed. Gina was outside the norm for me. She was everything I wasn't, yet she was perfect for me.

My conversation with Mama came back to me. I was sure she'd have a thing or two to say the next time we talked. I'd deal with Mama when that time came. For now, I had a job in front of me that needed to be done.

After my shampoo and shower, I walked into the room with the towel around my waist. Gina was curled on her side with her face turned away from me. She was sleeping with her hair spread around her shoulders.

I kissed her awake, which had her flipping on her back to stretch. She grabbed the towel and yanked it away.

I shook my head and dragged the sheet off her. "Now is not the time for playing."

She got on her knees, tugging the sheet from my hands. "I disagree, but since I don't want Kemar to think you've fallen into bad company, I'm going to clean your funk off me."

"Funk that you obviously like. Take this with you." I picked up the towel off the bed and threw it in her direction, laughing at her sassiness.

She caught the towel and when I made as if to slap her bottom, she ran into the bathroom and slammed the door.

I chuckled, wondering if I'd ever get tired of being around her. Gina made life different, in a good way. If I could figure her out, she'd make a great partner. That assessment surprised, but didn't exactly shock me.

Without me thinking consciously about it, Gina had been on my mind since I left her yesterday. On the surface she appeared flaky, but there was much more to her. I'd only discover what was beneath her shell if she let me. I made up my mind then to find out who, or what, had turned Gina into the chameleon-like woman I was coming to know.

Chapter 11

Gina

THE MOMENT KEMAR LEFT, I did my own tour of the cottage he'd just shown us. Two bedrooms, a bathroom, a small living area and a kitchen—perfect for a couple. The house was detached from the main building and was self-sufficient in every way. It even had its own entrance to the yard, which was divided by a fence with a built-in gate linking both properties.

What I liked most about the house were the huge windows, comfortable wicker furniture, and the colorful garden. The atmosphere was like being in the country, although we were still in the city.

Kemar's folks lived next door in a villa-style house in the Kingston 8 area, where many of the well-to-do bought their homes.

I walked into the living room and hugged Kofi around the neck. He sat at a writing desk with his laptop open.

"Are you sure you don't want me to stay here with you?"
