Emma and John only separated for the minute it took Emma to slip her key into her lock. As soon as they were inside, John pushed her against the door gently and they continued kissing. She wrapped her hands around his neck and his hands on her waist, he pulled her closer. They kissed their way to the bedroom, completely immersed in the passion that they felt for each other. It had started at the bar, and the sparks had only flown faster and the passion had grown on the dance floor. John had suggested they leave and since Emma’s place was closer, she had said goodbye to an impressed Carrie, and they had left. They had barely entered the elevator to her floor before their bodies had melded as one.
John pushed Emma on the bed and lay over her. He started unbuttoning her blouse when suddenly, her hand froze over his. He looked at her with passion filled eyes and huskily, he asked, “Is something wrong? Don’t you want this?”
Emma caressed his face with her free hand and she said, “I’ve never done this before. It will be my first time.”
His lips turned up in a smile and he showered her face with kisses. “I’ll be gentle, I promise.”
She nodded and smiled, “Okay.”
He lowered his head and kissed her again. He kissed her ears and then her neck and she shivered. He whispered, “We are going to have a long, pleasurable night ahead of us, babe.”
She moaned in response.
Chapter Two
“I can’t believe he still has not called you! How dare he?” Carrie’s eyes darkened. “It’s been a month.”
“Can we please not talk about this anymore, Carrie, pretty please?” Emma begged her friend. She was curled up on the sofa, wearing a gray tunic and shorts. Her hair was up in a messy bun, and she looked wiped out.
“How can you tell me not to talk about it? You gave him your virginity and he takes it as a one-night stand? The bastard promised to call and rather than go home you spent the entire break waiting for him! No way is he getting away.”
“I won’t be the first person in the world to have a one-night stand, Carrie. Can you please not make a big deal about this? I know you are worried because I gave my virginity to him but it’s fine, all right? I really did like him and that’s why I did. But it’s obvious he doesn’t feel the same about me. Just let it go, all right?” Emma looked at her friend with moist green eyes.
Carrie sighed and settled down on the edge of the sofa, “I hear you.”
“Do you promise?”
Carrie flared up again, “And I saw the bastard a couple of nights ago at the club flirting with yet another unsuspecting victim. You know what he did? He acted like he didn’t know me!”
Emma ran a hand through her hair, causing it to cascade down her back. She looked at her friend and sighed, “I was not some unsuspecting victim, all right? I knew what I was getting myself into.”
“That’s not true. He used you and dumped you. You’ve been crushing on him for so long and I bet he noticed how much you liked him when he approached. Who’s to say he didn’t even know about your crush before now? He knew he didn’t like you yet he took your virginity. He had no right. You are sweet and amazing. You didn’t deserve to get hurt this way.”
“All I am hearing you say is that I am naive. You don’t have to say anything else, it’s true. Look, several women have one-night stands every night, I don’t see you fighting their case,” Emma said tiredly. She placed her feet on the ground and padded off to her bed, leaving a still fuming Carrie.
“I’m sleeping over tonight!” Carrie called.
“Don’t!” Emma called back. “If you do, I won’t sleep early and then, I'll be late for my classes tomorrow. The break is over and I really just want to busy myself with schoolwork, all right? So, please leave.”
Ignoring her, Carrie headed to the kitchen to prepare herself an early dinner. She was not going anywhere. She planned to defend her friend from every heartbreaker and John’s in the world. She was wild, she was crazy and exposed, she knew that. One-night stands were no stranger to her, but Emma was a sweetheart who deserved a good man who loved her not some bum like John taking advantage of her. Thinking of him only infuriated her further.
As her classes started the next day, Emma tried to forget everything and pour herself into her studies. And she actually succeeded. It was the best distraction for her. During the first week, she did not see John and she was glad. She had no idea how she would react if she saw him.
And then, at the start of the second week, she saw him. He was in the quad, laughing with a couple friends, a blonde bombshell hanging off his arms. Their gazes met at the same time and she stood rooted to the spot as he and his gang walked towards her. She stretched out a hand but he ignored it and continued on. Not knowing where she gained the courage from, Emma turned around and shouted,
“John!”
He stopped and turned around. As he got closer, Emma swallowed hard. He looked really pissed and she was suddenly afraid that he would hurt her. He put his face close to hers and in a menacing tone, he said, “It was just a one-night stand. Did you really think it was anything otherwise? See, this is the problem with virgins, you shag them and they think they are in some fairytale where you are their Prince Charming and they become clingy. Get over yourself, Emily. It was just sex. The sooner you get it into your skull that I feel nothing for you, the better for you. Jeez, the sex wasn’t even that great.”
He turned and stalked off. Tears rolled down Emma’s cheeks and unstable, she held on to a column that was nearby.
“He didn’t even remember my name,” she muttered. Her head hurt and she felt like her world was spinning. She shook her head, as if to get rid of the fuzziness. She had spent so much time reading and had had so many late nights and less eating between. She did not blame her body for feeling exhausted. Asshe felt a darkness unfold over her, she heard voices and felt a hand on her shoulder and then, nothing…

Emma’s eyes flew open and she winced as she sat up. Someone hurried to her side and helped her. She heard Carrie’s voice before she saw her.
“You hit your head. You should be careful.”
