“And so you are wondering when you will find love?”

“Yeah, something like that.” Emma chuckled. “It probably sounds silly to you.

“No, it doesn’t. My parents have been together for so long, through good times and bad times. They have had their fair share of fights but they have shown how much they love each other quite a lot. The truth is that, I don’t know how they do it. There is no manual for it but damn, you have got to be crazy in love to stay together for thirty years. And it does not even seem as if their love has frazzled, jeez.”

Emma laughed and took a sip through her straw. She looked at her friend when she touched her. “What?”

“Do you know that guy? Blonde hair wearing a dark tee? He has been looking at you for a while.”

Emma turned to see who her friend meant. The guy smiled at her and she quickly averted her gaze. Carrie’s mouth fell open and she chuckled, “Was that a blush I just saw?”

“No, your eyes are deceiving you.”

“Heh, indeed, indeed. Well he is coming over so we’ll see,” Carrie informed Emma.

“What?” Emma froze.

“Just kidding,” Carrie laughed. “He actually just left.”

“Hey!” Emma threw her napkin at her friend causing her to laugh some more.

“Well, your reaction did prove that you like him.”

“Pfft, I don’t know the guy.”

“True, but all lovers were once strangers, right?”

“You are crazy. Besides, you know the only guy I actually do like.”

“Uh huh, Econ class guy. Your crush gets bigger every day.”

Emma laughed. “So why would your planner just up and cancel? You’ve still not told me, you know.”

Carrie sighed and rolled her eyes, “Well, you know my mom and her overbearing ways. Remember when I said that I don’t know how my parents do it? I meant it. The planner could not handle it anymore and she finally broke. In her words, my mom is an overbearing and spoiled bitch.”

“Oooh… And she picked the day before the event to back out? Now that’s cold.”

“Uh huh, you know I think it was her own form of payback,” Carrie said.

“That makes sense,” Emma said with a nod. She looked at the thin gold wristwatch around her wrist. “I need to get going. I still have to call my grandfather tonight.”

“He’s still not pleased that you won’t be going home for the break, huh?”

“Well, I am still trying to convince him that I have loads I need to do over the break but Gramps still wants me home.”

“He misses you, I can’t blame him. And then, he is running all the affairs of the ranch on his own.It is not surprising he wants you home.”

“I’ve told him to get a manager but he is just so stubborn,” a frustrated Emma grumbled.

“Can you blame him? You’re already in your senior year and you’re set to take over the ranch’s management. Why would he bother doing that?” Carrie inquired.

“He could get an interim manager. The truth is that he cannot trust anyone else with the reins of the ranch. He has trust issues, you know.”

“And you are the complete opposite. You give your heart to people all too easily,” Carrie said in an amused tone. “I am still quite surprised that you are a virgin. It is a surprise that you don’t have a string of heartbreaks with how gullible and trusting you choose to be.”

“Shush already!” Emma glared at her friend. Her eyes darted around as she tried to see if there was anyone around that heard Carrie.

“I don’t think a complete stranger is concerned about you being a virgin, Emma,” Carrie teased. Emma’s fiery gaze made her raise her hands in surrender. “Fine, I'll shut up. My apologies, my friend. I know that at age twenty-one, you are stilllooking for your Prince Charming who you will give your heart and body to.”
