All I can hear is my heart thumping in my chest. My dad did this? I mean, I know he’s a piece of shit, but is he a killer? “You’re heading there now?” I ask Grey, because if he isn’t, I sure as hell am.
“Yes, but once I get her back, I’m going to need your help.”
I don’t even miss a beat. “Tell me what you need me to do.”
Please let him get to Maddy before my father murders her.
Fuck…
I’m going to throw up. I’m going to pass out. I’m going to break.
No, I can’t do that. I need to be strong for Maddy.
“I’ll explain later. But can you get Noah and meet me at the Royal City Silver Airplane Hanger?”
“Umm… okay?” I’m so utterly lost.
He wants me to meet him at an airplane hangar. Wait… Is he taking Maddy somewhere?
I’d ask, but he hangs up on me.
Cursing, I dial my father’s number, even though I know he won’t answer. As I predicted, he sends me to voicemail.
I blow out a furious breath, then storm down the hallway to find Noah so we can get to this airplane hangar where we’ll hopefully finally get some answers. Like why is my father doing this?
And why the hell kidnap Finn as well?
CHAPTER 10
MADDISON
At first,I thought I was hallucinating when Finn called the man who kidnapped us his dad. I thought too many drugs were still lingering in my system, and I was hallucinating. But I quickly realize that isn’t the case, and that this man standing before us in his dark suit is indeed Finn’s father.
“Why the hell did you do this to us?” Finn growls out as he leaps to his feet and charges at his father. But he gets jerked back as the chain reaches its limit and winces as the metal cuff bites into his wrist.
Mr. Averson grins with sick, twisted pleasure. “You were always the stupid one, which is why I had them take you. Well, sort of. There’s more to it than that.”
“Fuck you,” Finn seethes with his fists clenched at his side. “And you’re not coming anywhere near Maddy. I’ll kick your ass if you try.”
Mr. Averson rolls his eyes. “You’re chained to a wall. There isn’t much you can do.” He crosses his arms and cocks a brow, arrogance radiating off of him.
I wonder how hard it was for Finn and River not to smack him across the face at least once while they were growing up. Maybe they did, though. I would have. I want to know.
Finn inches further in front of me, a wall of muscle protecting me from his own father. But protecting me from what? I have no idea what’s going on/
Finn apparently is sailing on the same brainwaves because he asks, “Why did you do this to us? Why did you cause that wreck and take us here… Wherever the hell we are?”
“You’re in a secure location,” Mr. Averson explains, smoothing his hand down his tie. “And don’t worry, I’m not going to kill you.”
“Well, I didn’t think you were until you just said that,” Finn says, shifting his weight.
“Why would I kill my own son?” Mr. Averson sounds mockingly offended.
Finn crosses his arms. “Now I really think you are going to.”
“You’ve always been so damn dramatic.” Mr. Averson gives an exhausted sigh. “I blame it on your mother. She let you get away with too much because she thought you were charming when really you were just desperate for attention.”
Finn remains quiet, and I’m guessing his father struck a nerve.
