“Sorry, there was another dog walking by the living room window.”

“I’m going to have to fly home and give those two a few more training lessons.”

“Yes, yes, we all know you’re the better dog trainer, Trina. Just like daddy.”

“I’m just saying, they’re eight years old and they run all over you and Bobby. Somebody has got to be the alpha of the pack.”

“Stop trying to change the subject. I know you’re not supposed to talk about him, but can you at least tell me if you have another session coming up with Dak?”

“Pat!”

“You’ve got to give me something. I’m your sister and I live vicariously through you.”

“Then that’s a very sad life you’re living.”

“Tell me one thing, and I’ll leave you alone.”

“Fine, I have another session coming up with someone who I’ll refer to as Mr. Six. No real names, Pat. Someone could accidentally hear us like your husband.”

“Mr. Six, huh? Ooh, that’s so close to Mr. Sex. Is that why you nicknamed him that? Because every time you look at him, you drool over at how sexy he is?” she asks in her horny teenager voice.

“Hardly.”

“Humph, that man is gorgeous. You must be blind to all the good ones.”

“Whatever, Pat.”

“Okay, so what was the first session like with Mr. Six?”

“Horrible.”

“How so?”

“I made a horrible first impression, and I’d say that it’s been affecting our work together.”

“What did you do?”

“I should have listened to you and stayed in bed.”

“Oh, it was that day?”

“I don’t know if I feel exceptionally guilty or if it’s because he’s a celebrity but I can’t stop going over our verbal exchanges in my head and all the things I would have said and done differently if I had the chance to do it over.”

Like get there on time.

“How many times have you met with him?”

“Two, but I bumped into him the other day at the park.”

“And you two chatted?”

“Yeah, he met Butters.”

“Was he nice to her?”

My sister and I always judge people based on whether they’re dog people. We figure that a person who doesn’t have compassion for a dog can never be compassionate enough to a human.

“He was and Butters liked him, too.”
