“What are you talking about? Everything’s changed. You’re sleeping with your student.”
“You make it sound so bad,” I snicker. “I’m a student tutor seeing another student, not a professor. Plus, I’m not sleeping with him, anyway.”
Not technically, but we’ve done a lot of other fantastic things.
“He hasn’t fucked you?” she asks, as if I just told her the most incredible lie she’s ever heard.
“Kia!”
“Does he know?”
“You’re making me sorry that I ever told you.”
“You’re not going to be able to put him off forever. You get that, right? You better explain to him that you’re a virgin. Seriously, he needs to know that you’re a freakin’ unicorn in a world where full of CGU tramps waiting for him at every building with no panties underneath their skirts.”
“He knows.”
She plops down on the edge of her bed dumbfounded.
“So he knows?”
I nod my head.
“He knows,” she repeats, as if she can’t believe it.
I repeat the answer, but I’m unsure why she’s so invested in whether we had sex or not. I know she doesn’t really like Freak. She would have told me that a long time ago. Before this whole fiasco with Aaron and Freak, she liked some kid in her economics class.
“Yes, Kia.”
“And are you two supposed to be exclusive?”
“Well, it’s not like he wrote me a note and asked me to go steady, but he knows me. He knows I wouldn’t be okay with him hooking up with other girls, and I’m pretty sure he feels the same.”
Freak is really possessive but in a good way, not in a Lifetime Movie “I’m in trouble” kind of way.
“What about Aaron? Does he know that you’re seeing him?”
If I left it up to Freak, everyone would know.
“Remember, he already thinks we’re together so there’s nothing to for him to know.”
“I wonder,” she muses.
“You wonder what?” She makes an odd facial expression. “You wonder what, Kia?”
“Nothing… I mean, are you sure that Aaron didn’t know about the plan?”
“How would he?” I say. “Unless someone told him.” I look at her suspiciously. “And even if someone did tell him, it wouldn’t matter. It’s not like he ever actually liked me.”
“But you liked him for a really long time. Seems like you gave up on him pretty quickly.”
“It was a baseless infatuation, Kia. The only way I can explain it was that it was safe. I could fantasize about him but not have to do anything about it, because he was so out of my reach. I gave up on it because it wasn’t ever real from the start.”
“And whatever this is you’re doing with Freak is real?”
“Yes, I think it is.”
“Did he ask you to come to a game yet?”
