“Nothing, what’s up with you?”
Tiger is not the type of man to take no for an answer, so I had to have a conversation with him after Rush and I started sleeping together. I obviously didn’t tell him anything about us, so I gave him the not wanting to mix work with personal speech. He didn’t buy it for one second, but I think it’s safe to say he’s okay.
We were definitely not a love match.
“About to do some sprints,” he answers.
“Mmm, okay. Make sure you stretch first.”
He looks over at Rush and Miranda talking. She just touched his arm.
“Hmm, they look cozy,” Tiger comments.
“Who, them?”
He points toward them as if I hadn’t been staring down their throats this whole time.
“I’d bet one-hundred bucks that they’re still hooking up.”
“Still?” I pretend to have no knowledge of Rush and Miranda’s past relationship.
“Those two used to bump uglies big time. The entire squad knew it.”
“Really? I’m surprised something like that got out. Rush is pretty quiet about his private life.”
“It’s hard for things to stay quiet around here. Most of us are barely out of college. Women, cars and football are all we talk, eat, shit and breathe most days. I even heard he was thinking about marrying her.”
My stomach rolls.
Did he just say Rush was thinking about marrying Miranda?
I don’t fucking believe it.
Rush would have told me something that important.
“But I’m sure you already knew that being his friend and all.”
I’m so shocked with this rumor that I don’t take in account that Tiger might be fishing for information instead of telling me facts and I fall for it hook, line and sinker.
“Yeah, I knew,” I say, lying through my teeth.
“Oh, so it was true? Damn, Bacchetti is one sneaky fucker, but I understand why. It’s better to keep something like that under wraps. Miranda is definitely Grade A Wifey material.”
“Yeah.” My heart breaks a little. “She is.”

MIA
Tonight,Rush had to stay at camp longer for a meeting, so I’ve penciled in some time to earn my keep around here and do the job of managing his house. It’s the first time I’ve been alone in the house in a long time with nothing but the fish and the Michael AI to keep me company.
“Michael, playWould I Lie To Youby the Eurythmics.”
PlayingWould I Lie To Youby the Eurythmics.
It’s a dangerous thing for me to be left to my own thoughts, because when I am, I reflect on the conversation between Rush and Miranda. I decided not to ask him about it. It was just a conversation and it would make me look incredibly insecure. The man is allowed to talk to whoever he wants, especially if he’s at work. Who am I to question it?
Then I think about the conversation she overheard between Rush and I in the hallway the day I was hired. She couldn’t have been too happy with him after hearing the things he said. Yet there they were, chatting it up like they were old school chums.
