“You’re taking what I’m saying the wrong way, darlin’. There’s nothing boring about you at all. It’s just that I don’t know you well enough yet to know how to relieve some of the stress you’re carrying around. But when I figure it out, I will be sure to replace any drink you might crave with whateveritis.”

I crack a small smile and continue chewing my food while he continues to focus on me and only me.

“Look at me, Adrienne.”

The sudden thick commanding bass of his voice sends a shudder down my spine and settles in between my legs. My eyes flick up instantly, as if I was powerless to do otherwise.

“I can think of another way to make you forget all about work and bad boyfriends.”

A piece of soft taco settles in my throat.

“You do?”

“Would you be interested?

“Um, if you’re talking about what I think you are that would be against the arrangement with the agency, wouldn’t it?”

“Ah, the pesky no sex clause.”

“Yeah, that one.”

“I’m going to put in the suggestion box that she adjust agency regulations.”

“I think the limits are there for a reason.”

I take a long gulp of my ice water.

Suddenly my throat is dry.

Suddenly I imagine all the ways that a man like Jason could help me unwind.

Suddenly I can feel the seam of my jeans digging into the folds of my pussy and I’m getting damper by the minute.

Crap, I should have worn panties.

“You should see your face right now,” he says, as if he’s been completely kidding with me the last few minutes.

I feel so stupid.

“Yeah, you got me,” I fake chuckle.

“Yeah, I definitely got you.”

Twenty-Two

ADRIENNE

After dinner,Jason asks if I would mind walking for a bit before we end the date. Of course I don’t mind. Any more time I get to spend with him is a bonus. He’s a lot of fun to be around. Who wouldn’t want to hang with him?

“Did you enjoy your meal?”

“You know I did,” I say, rubbing my protruding tummy. I’m not even embarrassed about it. Not with him.

“That’s a full tummy well earned,” he mocks.

“You know, a lot of off-the-beaten-path restaurants. Are you a foodie?”

“I’ve never been to either of those places before. I just did my homework and heard they were good spots for authentic cuisine.”
